WWE RAW logo

Venue: AT&T Center (San Antonio, TX)

Commentators: Michael Cole, JBL, & Jerry Lawler

One week after agreeing to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX, Triple H responds to the events that transpired the only way he knows how: violence. But before that he has an announcement concerning the main event for the “Showcase of the Immortals” that shakes things up some more. Also on the show The Shield switch their allegiance, The Usos take on The Real Americans in non-title action, Paul Heyman continues his Don King-like sell of Brock Lesnar’s impending meeting with The Undertaker, and John Cena admits that he fears Bray Wyatt.

Results and notes are gathered from James Caldwell‘s much more detailed recap/analysis over at PWTorch.

MATCH RESULTS/NOTES

1. Non-Title Match: The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter] defeated *WWE Tag Team Champions* The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) when Cesaro pinned Jey with THE NEUTRALIZER (12:20).

  • Note: No sign of dissension this week between The Real Americans, as it was explained that Zeb Colter had been spending time getting both men back on the same page.

2. Sheamus [w/ Hornswoggle] defeated Titus O’Neil via pinfall with the BROGUE KICK (4:07).

  • Before the Match: Hornswoggle returned, handing out gifts to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. He was interrupted by Wade Barrett who gave some BAD NEWS about the holiday (people are gonna vomit and make bad decisions due to too much alcohol). Sheamus then made his way out in an Irish rugby jersey and Hornswoggle joined him at ringside in Irish solidarity.
  • Note: Christian sat in on commentary for the match.
  • Post-Match: Renee Young interviewed Sheamus in the ring. Sheamus announced he would be participating in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. Christian attacked Sheamus afterwards and laid him out with an UNPRETTIER on the floor.

3. Non-Title No DQ Match: Daniel Bryan defeated *WWE World Heavyweight Champion* Randy Orton via pinfall (14:28).

  • The Finish: Batista came out and speared Orton, then Bryan dropped him off the apron with a dropkick and covered Orton for the victory.
  • Post-Match: Batista gave Orton a BATISTA BOMB.

4. Goldust [w/ Cody Rhodes] defeated Fandango [w/ Summer Rae] via pinfall with the FINAL CUT (5:10).

5. The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) defeated *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee Tamina Snuka when Naomi pinned Lee (3:40).

  • Notes: This was Naomi’s first match since her eye injury, and she sported an eyepatch during the contest. The Bella Twins sat in on commentary.
  • Post-Match: Lee shoved Snuka, and Snuka shoved back but they just stared each other down after to end the segment.

6. The Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Mark Henry, & *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E defeated Damien Sandow, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Alberto Del Rio when Show pinned Sandow with a CHOKESLAM (11:57).

  • Note: This was a match to help hype the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX.

7. Bray Wyatt [w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan] defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall with SISTER ABIGAIL (2:55).

SEGMENTS/NOTES

Triple H opened the show, saying he would end the Yes! Movement at WrestleMania XXX and wanted to talk to Daniel Bryan face to face later. He was interrupted by both Batista and Randy Orton who protested the fact that Daniel Bryan would get put into the main event if he won against Triple H. Triple H announced that Orton would face Bryan in a No-DQ match later in the show. Trips then made a big WrestleMania XXX announcement: if he beats Bryan in their match then he will be inserted into the Batista/Orton main event, so either way the biggest show of the year will end up being a triple threat match. Batista was pissed and Orton dropped him with an RKO before posing to end the segment.

John Cena came out to talk about The Wyatt Family. He admitted that he was scared of Bray Wyatt then said at WrestleMania XXX he would be fighting for his own legacy. Wyatt interrupted via TitanTron, sporting a Cena t-shirt, who said he doesn’t care if he dies as long as everyone sees Cena the way he sees him at the end of their match.

Paul Heyman cut another promo about The Undertaker on behalf of his client Brock Lesnar. It was announced later in the show that Taker will be on Main Event to respond.

Kane made his way to the ring and said after some investigating he found out that Jerry Lawler was the one who helped Daniel Bryan execute the “OccupyRAW” movement last week. Lawler plead innocence and refused to enter the ring when Kane asked, so Kane then called out The Shield to administer justice. Instead of attacking Lawler, however, The Shield attacked Kane instead, dropping him with a Triple Powerbomb and effectively turning face.

Mr. T was officially announced as the latest inductee into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

Triple H came out for the final segment and introduced Daniel Bryan to the ring. Triple H told Bryan that everything that has happened since Summerslam hasn’t been personal, it was about what was best for the WWE. However what Bryan did last week “crossed the line” and now he had to shut down the Yes! Movement come WrestleMania XXX. Triple H then told Bryan he has at least earned his respect. Stephanie McMahon then made her way out and said what Bryan did last week was illegal and was formally pressing charges. She brought out police officers, who cuffed Bryan. Triple H then said he didn’t want any of this…but they WEREN’T REAL COPS ANYWAY. Triple H then said he was looking forward to this, and began his savage attack on Bryan which included smashing his head against the steel post with a chair, all the while Steph watched with glee. Triple H finished Bryan with a Pedigree and he and his wife stood tall over the fallen Bryan to end the episode.

WWE RAW logo

Venue: FedEx Forum (Memphis, TN)

Commentators: Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, & JBL

WrestleMania XXX got a major shakeup this week on RAW as Daniel Bryan and his legion of fans “occupied” the show in order to finally goad Triple H into facing him at the showcase of immortals…with a very interesting stipulation, no less. WrestleMania XXX host Hulk Hogan also made an appearance to announce a special match for the event, which will honor the legacy of pro wrestling’s one true giant. Also on the show John Cena took on The Wyatt Family’s Erick RowanThe Undertaker made an appearance and raised the ire of Paul HeymanSheamus and Christian continued their war, and in the main event Bryan and The Big Show took on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and his challenger at WM XXX Batista in tag team action.

Results and notes from the show come courtesy of Jason Powell‘s much more interesting and detailed recap/analysis over at ProWrestling.net.

MATCH RESULTS/NOTES

1. John Cena [w/ Hulk Hogan] defeated Erick Rowan [w/ Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper] via pinfall with a rollup (3:30 shown).

  • Post-Match: Hogan and Cena celebrated as “Real American” played doing the classic post-match posing for the fans as The Wyatt Family looked on.

2. Non-Title Match: *WWE Tag Team Champions* The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) defeated Ryback & Curtis Axel (3:00).

  • Note: The New Age Outlaws were on commentary for the match.

3. Non-Title Match: *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E defeated Jack Swagger [w/ Cesaro Zeb Colter] via pinfall with a rollup (3:05).

  • Note: Colter tried to get Cesaro to interfere in the match, but Cesaro decided not to and Swagger got distracted by that long enough for E to roll him up for the victory.
  • Post-Match: The Real Americans argued some more. Colter tried to make peace by getting them to shake hands, which they did…but Cesaro squeezed just a little too hard and Swagger sold the pain.

4. The Shield (Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) [w/ *WWE United States Champion* Dean Ambrose] defeated Cody Rhodes & Goldust when Rollins pinned Rhodes with the running curb stomp (14:25).

  • Earlier in the Show; Kane caught up with The Shield backstage and said the first crack in their armor happened when they lost the Tag Team Titles to Rhodes & Goldust, and signed another match between the two teams for tonight. The Shield were okay with that and showed no signs of dissension after they had their summit on Smackdown this past Friday.

5. The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) defeated *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee Tamina Snuka when Nikki pinned Lee with the TORTURE RACK BACKBREAKER (4:20).

  • Note: Natalya sat in on commentary for the match to build her and Lee’s (I assume) upcoming title match.
  • Post-Match: Nikki Bella posed with the Divas Championship after her team’s win and Natalya shot Nikki a glare, hinting at something happening there in the future.

6. Memphis Street Fight: Sheamus defeated Christian via pinfall with a BROGUE KICK through a bass drum (14:25).

7. Daniel Bryan & The Big Show defeated *WWE World Heavyweight Champion* Randy Orton & Batista when Bryan pinned Orton with the KNEE PLUS (13:00).

SEGMENTS/NOTES

Hulk Hogan came out to open the show. He announced a special 30 man “Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal” for WrestleMania XXX with the winner receiving a special trophy. John Cena eventually made his way out and they nerded out over one another until The Wyatt Family interrupted. Bray Wyatt told Cena if he looked him square in the eyes he’d see a god. Cena brushed it off and challenged Wyatt to a match at WrestleMania XXX. He didn’t immediately accept, and it led into the Cena/Rowan match that started the show. Later on in the episode, during a recap of this segment, The Wyatt Family interrupted via backstage promo and Bray Wyatt accepted the challenge so that match is a go.

The Undertaker made his way out to the ring and was immediately interrupted by Paul Heyman. Heyman told Taker to not even show up at WrestleMania XXX lest his streak be finally destroyed. Taker responded by saying Lesnar would “rest in peace” come April.

Daniel Bryan made his way out and “occupied” the show by having a whole host of fans fill the ring and ringside area all in “YES!” shirts as a way to finally get Triple H to accept his WrestleMania XXX challenge. An angry Triple H finally accepted then Bryan added a stipulation: if he beats Triple H he gets inserted into the Orton/Batista match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Triple H charged at the ring but was held back by security and he angrily agreed to that as well.

‘WWE RAW’ 3/3/14 Results + Notes – Bryan Vs. Batista, Shield Vs. Wyatt Family, Aaron Paul Guest-Stars

WWE RAW logo

Venue: Allstate Center (Chicago, IL)

Commentators: Michael Cole, JBL, & Jerry Lawler

This week’s RAW saw the WWE attempt to own the negative fan sentiment surrounding their product at the moment by co-opting the “HijackRAW” movement and, more importantly, turning the real-life situation with CM Punk into part of a storyline for a different match. Also on the show The Usos once again challenged The New Age Outlaws for the WWE Tag Team Championship, The Authority went full-heel (again), The Shield faced The Wyatt Family in six-man tag team action, and in the main event Daniel Bryan took on the #1 contender to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, Batista. Also Aaron Paul guest-starred to hype his new movie Need For Speed so that was a thing as well.

Results and notes from the show come courtesy of James Caldwell‘s much more interesting and thorough recap/analysis over at PWTorch.

MATCH RESULTS/NOTES

1. The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) defeated The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) (c) to win the WWE Tag Team Championship (9:25).

  • Post-Match: Swagger tried to explain himself, and Cesaro was distracted long enough to eat a Big Ending from Big E. It was announced later in the show that E would wrestle Swagger.

3. The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan) defeated The Shield (*WWE U.S. Champion* Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) when Wyatt pinned Ambrose with SISTER ABIGAIL (13:54).

  • Notes: Rollins abandoned the team and watched the rest of the match from the entrance stage after an earlier failed tag attempt, saying that he couldn’t handle being The Shield’s “glue” anymore.

4. Santino Marella Emma defeated Fandango Summer Rae when Emma made Rae tap to the EMMA (MUTA) LOCK (3:19).

5. Sheamus defeated Christian via pinfall with the BROGUE KICK (13:58).

  • Post-Match: Sheamus stopped by for an interview with Renee Young backstage but Christian attacked him from behind and beat on him until he was pulled away by officials and refs. Sheamus sold a left-shoulder injury due to the attack.

6. The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) defeated Alicia Fox & Aksana when Nikki pinned Fox (4:10).

7. Dolph Ziggler defeated Alberto Del Rio via pinfall with the ZIG ZAG (2:45).

  • Before the Match: A car was driven out by the entrance stage and out popped Ziggler and this week’s guest star, Need For Speed‘s Aaron Paul.
  • Notes: Paul did commentary for the match then stood on top of the announce table to distract Del Rio, leading to Ziggler’s victory.

8. Non-Title Match: *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E defeated Jack Swagger [w/ Cesaro Zeb Colter] via DQ when Cesaro ran in and hit a Neutralizer (0:06).

  • Post-Match: Swagger and Cesaro got into it, the former shoving the latter and the latter teasing the CESARO SWING after sweeping the legs. Colter eventually sort-of smoothed things over, telling them to hug. However they continued arguing anyway as their music played.

9. Batista defeated Daniel Bryan via DQ when Randy Orton interfered (10:10).

  • Post-Match: Triple H and Kane entered the ring and Bryan kicked Trips in the face so Batista flattened him with a Batista Bomb. Trips then picked Bryan up and delivered a Pedigree. Triple H, Stephanie McMahon, and Kane stood tall over Bryan to end the show.

SEGMENTS/NOTES

-“Cult of Personality” opened the show but instead of MIA hometown hero CM Punk, out came Paul Heyman who sat cross-legged in the ring. He talked about a “Paul Heyman Guy” who didn’t fit the mold of a WWE star then namedropped Punk to a loud cheer. Heyman then said the “pipe bomb” of this little spiel was the fact that the fans were the ones who drove Punk away from both Heyman’s tutelage and the WWE at large. Heyman then went on to blame The Undertaker for Punk’s departure, saying that’s when his downward spiral began, and exclaimed that he wanted “The Streak” to be conquered. Out came Brock Lesnar who said that everyone, including Punk, has failed to end The Streak but he would be the one do it at WrestleMania XXX then said his own name the way that Heyman usually does it. They went to leave but out came Mark Henry to intercept. Lesnar eventually whipped him into the ring steps then dropped Henry through the announce table with an F5.

Daniel Bryan made his way out to the ring for a promo and refused to leave the ring unless Batista came down to fight him or Triple H came out to accept his challenge. Cue The Authority who made their way out to the ring. Stephanie McMahon tried to talk but Bryan brushed her off and turned his attention to Trips, saying he has been continually screwed for 6 months out of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship but still had the power of the people behind him and was stronger than ever. He challenged Triple H to a match at WrestleMania XXX once again but Triple H laughed and said that wasn’t going to happen, and told Bryan to just accept his failures and move on. He called Bryan a “B+ player” again calling it a good little spot for him, but it wasn’t good enough to lace up his boots and wrestle him at the biggest show of the year. McMahon interjected and warned Bryan the fans will turn on him in a dime without warning but The Authority wouldn’t then told Bryan that they “made him”. All three did some more jawing back and forth until Kane made his way out. Bryan hit Kane with a tope suicida and eventually was carted off to the back by referees and security.

John Cena cut an in-ring promo talking about Chicago and how special the city and this building was to him, and about the knee injury inflicted upon him by The Wyatt Family last week. Cena said he could sense the fans’ desire for change but that change is earned and whomever wants to step up has to go through him first. The Wyatt Family then interrupted via TitanTron, with Bray Wyatt warning Cena that he’s the reaper that will be putting him down.

Paul Bearer was announced as the latest member of the WWE Hall Of Fame 2014 Class.

-WWE Signature/Superstars Intro-

—–

Cody Rhodes makes his way out to the ring for the opening match as Tom Phillips welcomes the home audience. He’s joined by tag team partner/brother Goldust and he’s using his actual “Smoke and Mirrors” theme. Phillips hypes the EC Kickoff match between Rhodes/Goldust and Axel/Ryback. We cut to the announce table where Phillips and Byron Saxton quickly hype Elimination Chamber. Rhodes’ opponent, Curtis Axel, makes his way out second accompanied by Ryback.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Hey look at that Superstars is getting a big-ish match for once! Strange that it’s happening too, feels like this and the Kingston/Axel match on Main Event should have switched places.

—–

Match #1: Cody Rhodes [w/ Goldust] Vs. Curtis Axel [w/ Ryback]

Axel with a side headlock to start. Rhodes whips him into the ropes, but Axel slides under his legs and connects with an armdrag takedown. Axel comically celebrates the move as if it just won him the match. Axel grabs a waistlock , but Rhodes trips him up. Rhodes blocks a hip toss, hits an armdrag, and follows up with a dropkick that sends Axel into the corner. Axel catches Rhodes with a kick to the midsection and goes for a suplex but Rhodes blocks it and hits a front suplex of his own for a 1-count. Axel catches Rhodes with a running kick and covers for the 1…2…Rhodes grabs the bottom rope. Axel chops Rhodes in the corner then crotches him invertedly on the top turnbuckle. Axel goes for a second-rope back suplex but Rhodes fights him off and catches Axel with a moonsault. Both men are down. Rhodes sends Axel face-first into the corner then follows up with back to back clotheslines and the corner sunset flip for the 1…2…kickout. Rhodes connects with the drop down uppercut then hits the springboard missile dropkick. Rhodes signals for the finish but hits Ryback with the DISASTER KICK instead. Goldust takes Ryback off the apron. Axel tries to attack a distracted Rhodes, but Rhodes catches him with CROSS RHODES for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Cody Rhodes (8:41 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A good match, much better than Superstars’ typical offering lately. I’m already interested in this Kickoff match due to liking both teams so this didn’t do anything for me other than remind me to tune in at 630 on Sunday to see it go down.

The Bella Twins make their way out for the second match of the show. Their partner, Natalya, makes her way out second. Natalya’s Superstars streak continues. Their first opponent, Summer Rae, makes her way out next with new theme music. Phillips hypes her joining the Total Divas cast as well as her upcoming role in The Marine 4. Her partners, Tamina Snuka and Eva Marie, make their way out next to their own theme songs.

Match #2: Natalya & The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) Vs. Summer Rae, Eva Marie, & Tamina Snuka

Snuka goes to start for her team against Nikki but Rae decides she wants to instead. Rae does some dancing so Nikki responds with the worm. Rae charges at Nikki and eats a knee to the face. Natalya tags in, steps over Rae, then hits her with a dropkick. Nikki tags back in and catches Rae with a dropkick as well. Rae throws Nikki into the middle rope and distracts the ref, allowing Snuka to hit her with a cheap shot. Rae goes for a cover but doesn’t even get a count. Snuka tags in and stomps Nikki down to the mat. Rae tags herself back in and chokes Nikki with her boot. Snuka is tagged back in but Nikki fights back with rights. Brie ducks a clothesline and hits one of her own followed by a dropkick and a knee to the gut. Brie hits a running knee to the face and follows up with a missile dropkick for the 1…2…Rae and Marie break it up. They are dumped out of the ring by Natalya and Nikki. Brie goes for the faceslam but Snuka shoves her away and connects with a superkick. Snuka throws her vest on Brie then climbs to the top. Nikki tries to intervene but eats a boot to the face. Brie dodges the Superfly Splash and Brie connects with the X-Factor for the 1…2…3!

Winners [via Pinfall]: Natalya & The Bella Twins (3:56)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A quick but entertaining enough match. Snuka teaming with Total Divas when she’s the bodyguard for someone who is on a crusade against them was odd as hell but WWE at least remembered that and had her butting heads with Summer Rae throughout the match. Eva Marie, as usual, didn’t do much other than stand on the apron. You gotta let her wrestle again sometime, guys.

A-Ry calls it a “DDT” which doesn’t sound right.

Del Rio crotches Truth on the top turnbuckle then puts him in a tree of woe position, hitting him with a series of strikes. Del Rio poses at the crowd some more. This guy is all about stalling this week, jeez. Del Rio charges at Truth, who lifts himself out of the way sending Del Rio crashing shoulder-first into the post. Truth climbs to the top and hits a front-facing missile dropkick. Both men are down. Del Rio is up first but he misses a clothesline and eats back to back ones from Truth. Truth follows up with a spinning kick and a sitout front suplex for the 1…2…kickout. Truth can’t believe it. I can, though. Del Rio signals for the finish but Truth reverses the Armbreaker attempt and hits the Ax Kick for the 1…2…kickout. Truth has crazy eyes now. Truth seats Del Rio on the top turnbuckle and climbs to the second rope for a superplex. Del Rio pushes him down and stomps him into the mat from the top for the 1…2…3! Well that was abrupt.

Winner [via Pinfall]: Alberto Del Rio (11:53 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Had some good moments here and there but it felt like there was a lot of stalling going on, like they were trying to pad out the match. Del Rio winning the double stomp was also a bit surprising and out of the blue since that’s usually a set-up move, and I’m still confused as to why he needs to pull a kneepad down in order to connect with a kick.

We cut backstage where Alicia Fox and Aksana give words of encouragement to Tamina Snuka, who will be facing Natalya next. They are interrupted by Natalya and The Bella Twins. The Bellas make fun of Fox and Aksana for losing last week. The foursome argue until Natalya calms them down and tells Snuka “may the best Diva win”. Snuka just looks at her hand with disgust. Fox then calls Natalya a “senior citizen” because she’s never seen an old person before. Snuka then compares Natalya to Old Yeller. Natalya brushes it off and the Total Divas leave, calling Snuka “sir”. Snuka freaks and Fox and Aksana try to calm her down.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: That was definitely something I just watched. Lame as hell but part of me is happy to see the Bells/Fox & Aksana feud continuing. Came out of the blue and it’s refreshing for Divas to have something to do other than fight AJ for the title.

HYPE VIDEO: Christian returns to the WWE this Friday on Smackdown.

—–

New Foundation” plays Natalya to the ring and out she runs like a buxom and super cheery Ultimate Warrior. Honestly it looks like she just smoked a bunch of weed and isn’t handling her high very well, but it’s fun to watch. Phillips and Riley recap the segment we saw before the break and laugh it off because WOMEN AM I RIGHT? “Let’s Light It Up” brings out her opponent, Tamina Snuka, accompanied by Divas Champ AJ Lee…who wasn’t in the previous segment. Lee joins Phillips and Riley on commentary.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: What happened to the four other Divas that were in that segment? That’s what they were seemingly building to, pier-six brawl and everything. Odd.

—–

Match #2: Natalya Vs. Tamina Snuka [w/ *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee]

Snuka throws her vest at Natalya then repeatedly rams her shoulder into the midsection in the corner. Snuka connects with a series of knee strikes. She goes for a slingshot but Natalya rolls through and connects with a clothesline. Snuka bails out to the floor and trips Natalya up. Snuka slams the back of Natalya’s knee against the ring frame then slams the kneecap itself into the hard side of the ring. Snuka rolls in and covers for 2. Snuka continues working over the left knee while Lee builds up her inevitable title defense against Naomi, who’s pinned her twice in tag matches. Snuka applies a leglock as Phillips brings up Summer Rae being the newest member of Total Divas and Lee is totally cool with it. Lee sasses Phillips for asking if she’s jealous that she’s not on it (she turned it down, so she says).

Snuka continues with more strikes aimed at the left knee then poses for the crowd. Snuka brings Natalya to the mat with a hard snapmare then once again stomps the knee. Snuka connects with a Samoan drop then lifts her up by the leg. Snuka dodges an enziguri attempt but misses a superkick and Natalya rolls her up for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Natalya (3:18)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Blah match but I enjoyed Lee on commentary. Her acerbic shut down of Phillips asking about potential Total Divas jealousy was gold as I’m also sick of it being a goddamn topic of discussion. Maybe some people don’t want to be on a vapid reality show for the worst network on cable television, guys.

Post-Match: Natalya rolls out to the floor and Lee attacks her. She rolls Natalya in, leaving her open for a superkick from Snuka. They bully her until The Funkadactyls come out and make the save. Lee bails as Cameron and Naomi beat on Snuka. They connect with a double suplex and Naomi finishes her off with the REAR VIEW. Naomi screams at Lee to face her, and Lee just looks on in the aisle smiling.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Lee/Naomi is a much more interesting feud so I’m glad after all that they went with this instead of more Bellas/Aksana & Fox stuff. Lee and Naomi should end up having one hell of a match once they actually wrestle one another…and it might actually end with a real move instead of a roll-up!

Langston tags in and Mahal bails to the corner, tagging in McIntyre. McIntyre goes for a headlock but gets sent to the mat with a arm wrench followed by a backdrop. McIntyre catches Langston with a back elbow during a corner splash and connects with some corner chops. He jaws at Langston which angers him, and Langston backs McIntyre into the corner for some midsection shoulderblocks. McIntyre battles back but misses a clothesline and eats a running bodyblock from Langston. Slater and Mahal are then both sent out to the floor. Langston and The Usos get a running head start and The Usos connect with planchas while Langston spears Slater on the apron. AWESOME. The faces are in control as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Jey catches McIntyre with a strike as we return from the break. Jey mocks the other band members then goes back to McIntyre. McIntyre reverses a corner Irish whip and catches him with a kick when he attempts the float over, covering for a 2-count after. Slater tags in and repeatedly stomps his fallen foe. Slater taunts the other faces and connects with a series of strikes in the heel corner. Mahal tags in and hits some stomps of his own followed by a knee choke. Mahal follows up with a neckbreaker and covers for 2. Mahal immediately slaps on a rear-chinlock. Jimmy gets the hot tag and connects with a series of strikes and a headbutt for 2. McIntyre blind tags in but Jimmy catches him with an elbow. Jimmy takes Mahal out with a right and Slater grabs him, dropping him throat-first on the middle rope. Slater tags in, rolls in, and covers for 2. Slater hits Jimmy with a running clothesline followed by a series of forearms across the chest.

Slater slaps on a rear-chinlock. Jimmy escapes but Slater hits a neckbreaker out of nowhere for a 2-count. McIntyre tags back in and they hit Jimmy with a double slingshot suplex, and McIntyre covers for the 1…2…kickout. McIntyre goes into the full mount and hits a series of right hands followed by a sternum stomp. Jimmy sends McIntyre to the apron and eats a kick which sends him crashing to the floor. Slater rolls McIntyre back in the ring who tags into Mahal. Mahal breaks the tag attempt and covers for a 2-count. Mahal chokes Jimmy on the bottom rope and follows it up with a series of springboard kneedrops. McIntyre tags in and they both get hit with Whisper in the Wind. All three (em bee) men are down.

Slater tags in but so does Langston and he mows Slater over. Langston connects with the Warrior Splash then pulls the straps down. Mahal and McIntyre roll in and eat a pair of superkicks for their troubles. Langston picks Slater up as The Usos climb to the top. Langston hits the BIG ENDING as The Usos hit stereo Superfly Splashes and they all cover 3MB for the 1…2…3!

Winners [via Pinfall]: Big E Langston & The Usos (11:51 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: An excellent six-man tag team with a really fun finish on a visual level. Made watching this show completely worth it. Langston hitting a spear through the middle rope was amazing and goddammit I love Big E Langston.

Post-Match: The Usos try to get Langston dance but he has no rhythm. After a replay of the finish we cut to Langston cutting a rug in the whitest way possible to end the show. Big E Langston is the best.

-WWE Signature/Main Event Intro-

—–

We cut to the arena as “What’s Up?” brings out R-Truth and Xavier Woods (dressed in a suit). Truth concludes his rap then we cut to ringside where Woods has joined Tom Phillips and The Miz at the announce table. Truth’s opponent, Damien Sandow, makes his way out second mic in hand. Sandow says that at the Royal Rumble he’s in while 29 others are out. Sandow says Sunday begins the domino effect that ultimately leads to him becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion…and the face of the company that the half-wits need.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: If only, Damien. If friggin’ only. Maybe then you wouldn’t have to face R-Truth every couple of weeks.

—–

Match #1: R-Truth [w/ Xavier Woods] Vs. Damien Sandow

Truth slaps on a side headlock to start, then takes him to the mat. Sandow gets to his feet and tries to whip Truth off but he hangs on and wrenches in. Truth turns it into a roll-up for 2. Sandow sweeps the legs and covers Truth for a 2-count of his own, then they stare one another down. Woods says he’d eliminate Truth to win the Royal Rumble…if only they’re the final two. Sandow connects with a side headlock takedown of his own. Truth whips Sandow off and gets dropped with a shoulderblock. Sandow covers for 1, then gets kicked in the gut. Truth goes for a backslide but barely gets a 1. Sandow backs Truth into the corner and repeatedly rams the shoulder into the midsection. Sandow whips Truth into the ropes, and Truth decides to do a little gyrating before hitting him with a hip toss. Truth does the splits then his little shuck and jive before connecting with a standing legdrop for 2. Truth immediately transitions into an armbar when the pinfall attempt fails.

Sandow tries to whips Truth off with an armdrag but Truth rolls through and keeps it applied. Sandow backs Truth in the corner then connects with a series of strikes and kicks. Sandow pulls Truth away from the ropes and covers for 2. Sandow connects with a kneedrop and gets another 2-count for his effort. Woods hopes for a Flash Funk return at the Rumble as Sandow covers Truth for another 2-count. Sandow whips Truth into the ropes. Truth ducks a clothesline and connects with a headscissors, following up with a clothesline that sends Sandow out to the floor. Truth revs up the crowd with a “WHAT’S UP!” before going after his opponent. Sandow takes advantage of the breather and rams Truth back-first into the ring frame. He follows up with a Russian legsweep into the barricade as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Sandow has both arms grapevined as we return from the break. Truth breaks out of the hold but runs right into a knee to the midsection and Sandow covers for the 1…2…kickout. Sandow drops a series of knees into the ribs then soaks in the boos of the crowd. Sandow connects with a Side Russian Legsweep, rolls through, then hits back to back running forearms before concluding with the Elbow of Disdain for the 1…2…kickout. Sandow exposes the knee and drops it on Truth’s chest for the 1…2…kickout. Sandow immediately slaps on a rear-chinlock. Truth fights out but eats a headbutt. Sandow fights Truth off during a corner strike attempt then hits the TERMINUS for the 1…2…kickout. Sandow ducks a clothesline and goes for You’re Welcome but Truth escapes. Sandow counters The Lie Detector then locks in the ROYAL ARCH. After some struggle Truth grabs the bottom rope to force a break. Sandow immediately connects with a series of kneedrops to the small of the back. Sandow argues with the ref, allowing Truth to roll him up for the 1…2…kickout. Sandow then runs into the LIE DETECTOR and Truth covers for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: R-Truth (9:28 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: An okay enough match, but not enough to impact to be anything more than time filler on a TV show. Sandow’s descent into mediocrity post-MITB loss has been bumming me out on an almost continual basis for the past few months. What a wasted opportunity. I will probably mention that every time Sandow has a match that doesn’t do anything to warrant me actually talking about said match.

VIDEO RECAP: Daniel Bryan breaks free of The Wyatt Family and lays waste to Bray Wyatt inside a steel cage (2 Weeks Ago on RAW).

VIDEO CLIP: Daniel Bryan challenges Bray Wyatt for the Royal Rumble. (Last Monday on RAW)

Brie Bella is combing her hair backstage when her sister Nikki Bella runs up excitedly. She says she’s proud of Brie for knowing Bryan was faking The Wyatt Family alliance the whole time. They have a sister argument about how Nikki used to sneak out and Brie covered for her until Alicia Fox and Aksana interrupt. Fox says Brie and Bryan can now go back to being a perfect couple living in a rundown shack, and Aksana references a “swamp wedding”. Fox and Aksana laugh and Fox says it was just a joke. Fox mocks Brie’s hair or something and The Bellas angrily walk off. They meet in tag team action next.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: And here I was thinking Alicia Fox was a mute. Glad WWE actually let a Divas talking segment happen to build a match on the show.

SMACKDOWN HYPE GRAPHIC: Big Show & Rey Mysterio face The Real Americans on Friday.

—–

You Can Look (But You Can’t Touch)” brings out The Bella Twins for the next match. Their opponents, Aksana & Alicia Fox, make their way out second to the former’s theme song. Phillips recaps the “swamp wedding” comments from the duo and Miz brings up how you don’t mess with a woman and her wedding, which he knows for a fact since he’s dealing with impending nuptials to former WWE diva Maryse. I may not like The Miz much anymore but you can’t blame a person for being happy and in love.

—–

Match #2: The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) Vs. Aksana & Alicia Fox

Brie and Aksana start. Aksana tries to touch Brie’s hair again and Brie greets her with a series of forearms and a double knee strike to the face. Nikki tags in. Brie dropkicks her down then Nikki dropkicks her from behind for a 2-count. Nikki whips Aksana into the corner then takes her out of it with a monkey flip. Brie tags back in and sort-of connects with a second-rope missile dropkick. Aksana gets to her feet and clubs Brie down before delivering back to back elbowdrops for a 2-count. Aksana sends Brie into the corner then tags Fox in. Fox chokes Brie against the middle rope. Brie fights back by sending her into the ropes with a drop toehold. Brie hits her with a knee but Aksana tags in and prevents a Bella tag. Aksana sends Nikki off the apron then brings Brie back to the heel corner.

Aksana does a little pose walk then stomps the fallen Brie down. Fox tags in and applies a headlock, transitioning into a chinlock. Brie elbows out but Fox grabs the hair and sends her crashing to the mat. Fox tags but only gets 1. Fox applies another chinlock as Nikki tries to rev the crowd up. Brie fights out and takes Fox down with a leaping snapmare. Nikki gets the hot tag and connects with a back bodydrop. Nikki dropkicks Aksana off the apron then hits Fox with a knee to the face. Nikki whips Fox into the corner then connects with a clothesline followed by a bulldog. Aksana runs in and Brie dropkicks her out. Nikki gets sent to the corner but dodges a splash. Nikki picks Fox up and connects with the TORTURE RACK BACKBREAKER for the 1…2…3!

Winners [via Pinfall]: The Bella Twins (4:14)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Decent tag team match. The Bellas have gotten a lot better, though I still wish they would tone down the constant talking they do throughout the match. However Divas tag team matches like this don’t really mean much since there isn’t a championship to pursue; it’s more like just treading water.

We return to the arena where Sin Cara awaits his opponent. “Realeza 2013” brings that man, Alberto Del Rio, out to the ring. We go to a clip from Monday where Batista beat up Del Rio for all of his trash talk from the past few weeks. We cut back to the ring with Del Rio’s always hilarious scowl is present on his face, a reaction to the footage we just watched.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Sin Cara’s color scheme matches Del Rio’s boots. Are they a tag team now? That’s how tag teams form, right?

—–

Match #3: Sin Cara Vs. Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio immediately clubs Cara down as the mood lighting kicks on. Cara tries to whip Del Rio off from a side headlock but he hangs on to the mask. Del Rio backs Cara into the corner, but Cara uses his speed to escape clothesline attempts. Cara does a front flip and stares Del Rio down. Del Rio gets in a kick and clubs Cara to the corner. Cara connects with a float-over headscissors then follows up with a dropkick sending him out to the floor. Cara connects with a tope suicida immediately after to further hurt his opponent. Cara rolls Del Rio in and he hits a springboard dropkick to him in the corner for a 1-count. Del Rio fights back but Cara ducks a corner strike and connects with a chop. Cara gets backdropped to the apron then climbs to the top, hitting a flying armdrag. Cara charges at Del Rio for a follow-up but Del Rio counters that with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Cara ducks a clothesline and goes for a springboard sunset flip but Del Rio rolls through and connects with a dropkick. Del Rio sends Cara shoulder-first into the ring post with enough force that it sends Cara to the floor. Del Rio poses as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Del Rio covers Cara for a 2-count as we return from the break. Del Rio slaps on a rear-chinlock. Cara breaks out with rib strikes then connects with a sunset flip for 2. Cara charges at Del Rio, who hits him with a tilt-a-whirl slam. Del Rio crotches Cara on the top turnbuckle and rips Cara’s mask off. Del Rio argues with the ref as Cara puts the mask back on. Del Rio puts Cara in a tree of woe position and hits a series of forearms. He goes for a follow-up shoulderblock but Cara moves and he hits the steel post instead. Cara regroups and heads to the top, hitting Del Rio with a missile dropkick. Del Rio fights back and seats Cara on the top turnbuckle. He goes for a superplex but Cara knocks him back to the canvas and hits him with a tornado DDT. Cara covers for the 1…2…kickout.

Cara mounts his comeback with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors takedown followed by a back handspring elbow for the 1…2…kickout. Cara rolls to the apron and connects with a kick to the face. Cara heads to the top but Del Rio crotches him. Del Rio climbs to the second rope and connects with the superplex for the 1…2…kickout. Del Rio exposes the knee and measures Cara up. Cara dodges the knee strike and rolls Del Rio up for the 1…2…kickout. Cara follows up with a fireman’s carry slam then heads to the top rope. He goes for the Swanton but Del Rio rolls out of the way and connects with a superkick for the 1…2…kickout. Del Rio can’t believe it.

Del Rio heads to the top and Cara crotches him on the strut. Cara climbs to the second rope and goes for a superplex but Del Rio powers him off and double stomps him to the mat. Cara sells it as death, flopping like a fish. Del Rio seizes the opportunity and locks in the CROSS ARMBREAKER. Cara immediately taps.

Winner [via Submission]: Alberto Del Rio (9:56 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A really fun match that justified the existence of Main Event this week. These two work very well together and with a different person under the Sin Cara match there’s no threat of the match being called off because he jammed his fingers or got a boo boo. The missed Swanton into the superkick from Del Rio was the highlight. I have nothing bad at all to say about this match. Good way to end the show.

Post-Match: Del Rio celebrates we we fade to logo.

Match #1: *WWE Tag Team Champions* Cody Rhodes & Goldust Vs. The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) in a NON-TITLE MATCH

Goldust and Dogg start. Dogg backs Goldust into the corner and tries for a cheap shot but Goldust ducks and catches him with a right hand. Dogg offers his hand then kicks Goldust in the gut. He commences with the dance jabs but Goldust ducks the final and connects with rights of his own. Goldust hits a couple of rights in the corner mount until Dogg knocks him. Dogg whips Goldust into the corner, who jumps to the middle turnbuckle and catches him with a back elbow. Gunn tags in and gets backdropped out to the floor veeeeery sloooowly. Dogg tries to intervene and Rhodes hits them both with a springboard missile dropkick. Rhodes covers for the 1…2…Dogg interferes. Goldust clotheslines him and himself out to the floor. Gunn catches Rhodes with an elbow and goes for the FAMEASSER but Rhodes escapes and goes for the Cross Rhodes. Gunn counters and takes Rhodes down with a tilt-a-whirl slam, covering for the 1…2…kickout. An “EXCUUUUSE ME!” brings out Vickie Guerrero. Guerrero is here to remind everyone that the Royal Rumble match happens in 9 days and it’ll be everyone for themselves. She brings up that Rhodes and Goldust will even have to face one another, and this distraction allows Gunn to roll Rhodes up for the 1…2…3.

Winners [via Pinfall]: The New Age Outlaws (4:43)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Dumb ending to a dull match and the worse team got the victory to boot. I didn’t like anything about this one except for JBL shutting down every joke attempt from The Miz. He might just kill him by the end of the show.

Paul Heyman: Hype Machine

Paul Heyman makes his way out to the ring with no music. Heyman introduces himself, then says he stands before the WWE Universe as the advocate for BRAWWWWWK LESNAR. Heyman brings up Big Show throwing Lesnar across the ring from a few weeks ago (the crowd cheers) and says it’s part of the conspiracy BRAWWWWK LESNAR has been dealing with since he got here. Heyman says Lesnar got into a fight with Mark Henry and after fulfilling the “Eat, Sleep, Conquer, Repeat” mantra he was attacked by Show. Heyman says Show gave everyone the misleading impression that Show could be physically dominant over Lesnar. Heyman runs off Show’s physical stats then says at Royal Rumble BRAWWWWK LESNAR will conquer him. Heyman says he has been through many wars, and all of them with BRAWWWWK LESNAR by his side, then says he fears no evil for Lesnar walks next to him. Heyman says that’s why Show may try to attack with someone like Zeb Colter but not him because of who he’s with.

Crank It Up” brings out The Big Show and Heyman doesn’t seem very confident anymore. Heyman tells Show to stop where he is and says Show doesn’t try this with him. Show runs into the ring and Heyman immediately runs and bails through the crowd. Show asks why Heyman is running if he’s so scared and fears no evil. Show says he knows Heyman and Lesnar are scared because of what happened, then we cut to Show throwing Lesnar across the ring from two weeks ago on Old School RAW. We go back live and Show says he knows Heyman is scared and lying through his yellow teeth. Show says he has a message for Lesnar: at Royal Rumble he’s knocking him out. “Crank It Up” plays as Show stares Heyman down.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A good enough segment due to Paul Heyman’s once in a lifetime ability to sell any match he wants to. The whole “Show can win because he threw Brock Lesnar once” basis for this is a little weak though, especially since there’s a whole history of these two going at it in WWE’s past. It’s like the WWE is afraid of bringing up that Brock Lesnar was an actual pro wrestler at one point before he became an MMA guy.

Eva Marie announces that Rey Mysterio will face Alberto Del Rio next before blowing a kiss. What.

After another video hyping Batista’s return (this Monday!), we cut to a scowling Alberto Del Rio in the ring, “Realeza 2013” playing in the background. We see a clip from Del Rio beating Rey Mysterio on Monday and cutting another Batista promo. Speak of the devil Mysterio is his opponent tonight as well and “619” plays him out to the joy of the DCU Center. Cole hypes Mysterio, Del Rio, and Miz all being in the Rumble match. Mysterio grabs a mic and says he can see in Del Rio’s eyes that he’s worried about Batista returning on Monday when he should be worried about their match right now.

—–

Match #2: Rey Mysterio Vs. Alberto Del Rio

Del Rio attacks right at the bell, choking him against the middle rope and ripping Mysterio’s t-shirt off. Del Rio goes for a kick but Mysterio dodges and he flies out to the floor. Mysterio hits a baseball kick on Del Rio then slides under the ring and splashes onto Del Rio. Mysterio rolls Del Rio in as JBL calls Miz a “one hit wonder”. Mysterio climbs to the top and Del Rio trips him up, trapping him in a tree of woe. Del Rio hits a running kick and Mysterio crashes to the mat. Del Rio is in control as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Mysterio catches Del Rio with a top-rope seated senton as we return from the break. Mysterio goes for the 619 but Del Rio gets up and connects with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker instead. Del Rio covers for a 2-count then goes for a sunset flip but Mysterio rolls through and kicks him in the head for a 2-count. Mysterio climbs to the top and Del Rio connects with an enziguri to knock him back to the mat. Del Rio covers for the 1…2…kickout. Del Rio postures to the crowd a little bit then goes for the Cross Armbreaker. Mysterio escapes and hits Del Rio with a tornado DDT for the 1…2…kickout. Del Rio connects with an armbreaker out of nowhere but Mysterio rolls through the Cross Armbreaker and sends Del Rio into the middle rope off an armdrag. Mysterio connects with the 619 but Del Rio gets the knees up when attempts the follow-up top-rope splash. Both men struggle to their feet. Del Rio pulls down his kneepad and goes for a running strike but Mysterio ducks it and rolls him up for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Rey Mysterio (4:49 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Surprising result considering Del Rio is headed towards a showdown with Batista and Mysterio is just treading water until another injury unfortunately happens. Also why did Del Rio pull down his kneepad if he was going for a kick?

Post-Match: Del Rio attacks Mysterio from behind then locks in the CROSS ARMBREAKER as the official tries to break him free. Del Rio lets go and rolls to the outside to stare down the crowd. “Realeza 2013” kicks back up as Del Rio jaws at the audience a bit.

Somebody Call My Momma” plays as The Funkadactyls make their way out to the ring and Cole shills the Royal Rumble. Naomi is the one in action. We see clips from Monday where AJ Lee pinned Cameron during a tag team match. Tamina Snuka then attacked Cameron some more before Naomi cleared the ring. We cut to a shot of the crowd where NXT Diva Emma is dancing in the crowd holding up an “#EMMATAINING” sign. “Let’s Light It Up” brings out Naomi’s opponent, Tamina Snuka, accompanied by Divas Champ AJ Lee. Cole announces that Lee is now the longest-reigning Divas Champ of all-time.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Can’t wait for Emma to finally debut on the main roster. She’s awesome.

—–

Match #3: Naomi [w/ Cameron] Vs. Tamina Snuka [w/ *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee]

Snuka picks Naomi up and seats her on the top rope before shoving her off and onto the floor. Naomi has been eliminated from the Royal Rumble. Snuka goes to the outside and rolls Naomi back into the ring. Snuka stomps Naomi and whips her into the ropes. She goes for a back bodydrop but Naomi lands face-first super awkwardly, almost folding like an accordian. Snuka covers Naomi for a 1-count then applies a chinlock, driving the knee into the spine for added pressure. Snuka slingshots Naomi throat-first into the middle rope then whips her hard into the corner. Snuka brings Naomi out of the corner, and Naomi catches her with a right and back elbow. Naomi ducks a clothesline and catches Snuka with a spinning leg lariat. Lee trash talks on the apron as Naomi hits Snuka with a Bubba Bomb. Cameron attacks Lee and Snuka gets distracted, allowing Naomi to roll her up for the 1…2…kickout. Naomi hits Snuka with an enziguri then connects with a split-legged moonsault for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Naomi (2:35)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Awkward landing on that backdrop-ish aside this was a good showing from Naomi. She’s got one of the more entertaining movesets of the Divas division.

After some WWE Network hype we cut to the announce table where Cole, JBL, & The Miz segue into a video focusing on Daniel Bryan’s turn back to the good side on RAW.

Bray Wyatt Speaks on Daniel Bryan

The Wyatt jump cut takes us out of the clip. “Live In Fear” plays as Bray Wyatt & The Wyatt Family make their way out to the ring. Wyatt sits in his rocking chair and blows out the not fire-based lantern. He stands then the trio make their way into the ring. A “DANIEL BRYAN!” chant immediately breaks out. Wyatt says as a child he wanted nothing more in life than to be powerful like his father and did his best to appease him. Wyatt says he tried to be just like him but it was never good enough, and he was never there for him. Wyatt calls the crowd “sheeple” and mocks them by bleeting. Wyatt says that his father, instead of trusting him with the kingdom, betrayed and deceived him sending him out to walk among the sheep. Wyatt says he always knew he was destined for greater things and while he was calling for help while trapped in that deep dark hole Abigail “saved” him, giving him hope and singing to him. Wyatt says he became enthralled with her beauty and obsessed with her power. Wyatt says that Abigail told him that on his path to righteousness he would be deceived again.

Wyatt says that on Monday he saw and felt the moment that Abigail had talked about; the moment where he had to sacrifice himself so he could be resurrected into the creature he was supposed to be. Wyatt says he’s already dead and Bryan’s foolish attempt to stab him in the back did nothing. Wyatt says he does not bleed like one of the people. Wyatt says that Daniel Bryan was given every chance to walk with the Reapers and now he will burn with the saints. Wyatt throws the mic, kneels down Christ-like, and mouths “Follow the Buzzards”.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Amazing promo from Bray Wyatt that acted both as a warning shot to Daniel Bryan and as a way to further build his character. Goddammit I love The Wyatt Family so much, they are on a completely different level than the rest of the WWE.

Backstage Interview Area

Renee Young is standing by once again with CM Punk. Young says she’s also heard that Punk wants to call out The New Age Outlaws in addition to The Shield, and asks him which she wants. Punk says he wants all five superstars. Young asks if that’s career suicide and Punk says it’s more of a gift, a chance for The Authority to shut him up. Punk says it’s an opportunity to get what they want and one day he’ll get the opportunity to get what he wants.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: CM Punk also called me out as well but they edited that part out of television.

The Bella Twins appear via Diva introduction interstatial hyping the next match between Big E Langston and Fandango. One of the Bellas coaches the other on how to correctly say Fandango.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: …Kill me.

—–

Big E Langston is already on the ring apron as we return to the arena. “I Need Five” plays as he concludes his entrance. “ChaChaLaLa” brings out Summer Rae who heralds the coming of Langston’s opponent Fandango. Cole hypes the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame to take place the night before Wrestlemania XXX. Langston watches the entrance at ringside with a bemused look on his face.

—–

Match #4: *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E Langston Vs. Fandango [w/ Summer Rae] in a NON-TITLE MATCH

Langston rolls in and the bell rings. Fandango gets in a right hand but his Irish whip attempted is reversed. Langston picks Fandango up and delivers a backbreaker. Fandango immediately bails out to the floor as Cole goes through the rules of a Royal Rumble match. Fandango runs back in and hits a series of strikes followed by a European uppercut. Langston leap frogs a running Fandango and hits a shoulder tackle, followed by a running corner shoulderblock to the midsection. Langston tries to do it again but runs into a pair of knees instead. Fandango kicks Langston out to the floor. Fandango grabs Langston’s arm between the post and whips him shoulder-first into the steel before sending him flying into the barricade.

Fandango works the injured wing over with kneedrops, then connects with a series of right hands as Rae happily claps at ringside. Fandango applies an armbar. Langston whips Fandango off but eats a dropkick and Fandango covers for a 1-count. Fandango follows up with a short-arm clothesline then reapplies the armbar. Langston gets to his feet and takes Fandango out to the floor with an armdrag. Fandango climbs to the apron and Langston hits him with a running knee. Fandango runs in and eats back to back clotheslines followed by a belly-to-belly suplex. Langston gets a running head start and hits the Warrior Splash. Langston measures Fandango and goes for the Big Ending but Fandango escapes. Fandango hits Langston with a kick but eats a midsection right hand when he attempts a second-rope move. Langston follows up with a running bodyblock, pulls the straps down, then finishes off Fandango with the BIG ENDING for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Big E Langston (4:17)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Yay Langston beat a guy he already beat when it mattered more a few weeks ago! If you can’t tell the wrestling on this show is boring me to tears. Miz and JBL almost coming to blows on commentary twice now has been pretty funny though, even if it distracts from the action at hand. In the case of this week’s show I’ll allow it.

Backstage Interview Area

Renee Young is standing by with The Shield. Young asks if they have any plan to remain a cohesive unit in the Royal Rumble match itself. Dean Ambrose says the real question is how the 27 competitors are gonna try to compete against their well-oiled machine. Young presses further, asking Ambrose if it came down to it would he throw Seth Rollins out to win the match. Ambrose asks Young if he looks untrustworthy then says he wouldn’t do it because they are best friends. Rollins cuts in and says while that’s nice, he knows Ambrose couldn’t do it anyway and he would toss him out in a second to win. Ambrose says he was kidding and would throw him out and the two start arguing before Roman Reigns shuts them up with a stare. Reigns says it’s about main eventing Wrestlemania and would throw both of them over the top in an instant. Regardless one of them will win and they will still be united…as The Shield.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A simple but effective storyline for the Royal Rumble match. I dug it. Felt old school in a way.

Patriot” kicks up, bringing out The Real Americans who wheel Zeb Colter out. Colter is wearing a neck brace, selling the effects of Big Show’s totally unwarranted KO Punch from Monday. The wheelchair starts careening down the ramp and his eyes bug out until Cesaro and Swagger catch him. We even see a clip of Show’s punch from RAW. Still looks unprovoked and ridiculous. We cut back to ringside where Colter has a mic. Colter says he’s hurting and in pain, thanks to a big bully named The Big Show. Colter says he hopes Brock Lesnar treats Show the same way he treated him. Colter then does the “WE! THE PEOPLE!”. Their opponents, The Usos, make their way out next to “So Close Now” after the Siva Tau ritual.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Colter was hilarious here and the wheelchair spot at the beginning had me, erm, rolling (it really is the best word so whatever f*ck it). WWE trying to sell Show hitting a senior citizen for no reason as funny though is stupid and no one with a brain should agree with that.

—–

Match #5: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) Vs. The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter]

The Usos are wearing a bunch of tape due to the effects of the cage match on Monday. Jimmy and Swagger start. Swagger gets the advantage early, throwing Jimmy into the heel corner. Cesaro tags in and stomps Jimmy in the taped ribs before hitting the running shoulderblock to the midsection. Cesaro follows up with a European uppercut then tags Swagger back in. Swagger aims his knee strikes at Jimmy’s ribs then tags Cesaro back in who kicks right at them. Quick tag back to Swagger. Jimmy fights out of the corner but gets sent to the corner during a tag attempt. Cesaro tags in and Swagger launches him into Jimmy in the corner. Awesome. Cesaro covers Jimmy for a 2-count. Cesaro connects with a series of strikes to the ribs, concluding with a kick. They are in control as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Jimmy tries for a tag but Cesaro stops him, sending him to the mat, then applies the GIANT SWING for 10 revolutions. Colter gets dizzy watching it. Swagger tags in and hits Jimmy with a belly-to-belly slam, covering for the 1…2…kickout. Swagger applies a front facelock. Cole tries to call Colter’s toughness in question by mocking his wheelchair. Dick. Jimmy fights both Real Americans off then hits Cesaro with a top-rope Whisper in the Wind. Jey gets the hot tag and floors Swagger with back to back clotheslines followed by a midsection clothesline and right hand. Swagger reverses an Irish whip but eats a shoulderblock. Jey hits Swagger with the corner butt bomb and covers for the 1…2…kickout.

Jey attempts a superkick but Swagger catches it. Jey ducks a clothesline attempt and hits a Samoan drop for the 1…2…Cesaro breaks it up. Cesaro kicks Jimmy off the apron and Jey clotheslines him out to the floor. Swagger slaps on the PATRIOT LOCK to Jey, keeping him in the center of the ring. Jimmy breaks it up with a superkick. Cesaro runs in and he and Jimmy fight to the outside, Cesaro hiding behind Colter. Colter trips Jimmy and he and Cesaro high five. Jimmy sends Cesaro into the barricade then turns to the injured Colter. BOOOOOOOO. Jimmy grabs the wheelchair and rams him right into Cesaro. Jey takes Swagger out with an electric chair then tags in Jimmy who hits Swagger with a SUPERFLY SPLASH for the 1…2…3!

Winners [via Pinfall]: The Usos (6:08 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A paint by numbers match with a comedy spot featuring Colter thrown in (which I admittedly smiled at, even if the thought of the good guys taking advantage of weak old people makes my blood boil). Entertaining but forgettable.

Post-Match: The Usos celebrate while The Real Americans check on their fallen compadre.

CM Punk Calls Out The Shield & The New Age Outlaws

Cult of Personality” brings out CM Punk for the final segment of the episode (FINALLLLLY). He’s dressed to wrestle which is strange since he’s not wrestling. Put on some pants, Punk! The music dies down and a “CM PUNK” chant immediately breaks out. Punk says he’s not out here because he’s a masochist, he’s out here because he’s not a coward…like The Authority. Punk says he’s also not an idiot, although it might seem like he is because he’s ready to call out five tough S.O.B.s. Punk says it doesn’t matter what he does or who he calls out because The Authority will do everything in their power to shut him up. Punk says when he talks people listen and that’s real power. Punk circles the ring with the mic to soak in the cheers and chants from the crowd.

Punk says when he says Authority he specifically means Triple H, a man who lucked into a position of power and uses said power to crush anyone under his oppressive heel in an attempt to feed his massive ego and personal agenda. Punk says Triple H is somebody who hides behind his wife…and The Shield.

“Special Op” plays out The Shield. The trio make their way through the crowd. They surround the ring as “Oh You Didn’t Know” plays out The New Age Outlaws. All five men climb the apron and Punk arms himself with the mic. Before anything can happen out comes Kane. Kane yells at the five men to stand down, and stand down they do. Kane gets in the ring and says The Authority doesn’t want it this way. Kane says Punk’s anger is misplaced and his paranoia is getting the better of him. Kane says The Authority want him to main event Wrestlemania which is why they entered him into the Royal Rumble match. Kane says his top directive is to make sure Punk is treated justly and with the respect he deserves…and that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Kane gives Punk his word then leaves the ring.

Punk tells Kane’s word used to mean something but it doesn’t now that it comes out of a 7 foot tall sellout suck-up. Kane turns and stares at him angrily. Kane says “GET ‘EM BOYS” and the five climb the apron again. Kane then runs into the ring and chokeslams Punk. Kane stands over Punk as his theme song plays and the show concludes.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Really good segment to end the show, adding a wrinkle to the impending Punk/Triple H feud. I’m getting more invested into the impending Punk/Triple H storyline than I expected to be, and Kane’s involvement increases the interest even further since he’s finally going to be doing something. Feels like he’s just been background fodder since turning corporate, a definite dropping of the ball of WWE’s part not to capitalize on such an abrupt and interesting character change.

*****

Overall Show Thoughts

The closing segment and Bray Wyatt’s promo were great, and there were some bright spots in a few matches here and there, but overall this Smackdown felt like it took forever to end. The matches weren’t bad (save for the opening contest, but that’s probably because of my bias) but they weren’t interesting either and the few storyline-continuing nuggets weren’t enough to warrant investing my time into both hours of the show. WWE probably has the important clips up on YouTube, go check those out instead. It’ll be quicker.

‘WWE Old School RAW’ 1/6/14 Results + Notes – Ric Flair Confronts Randy Orton, Piper’s Pit w/ The Shield, Punk Vs. Reigns, ‘The Snake’ Surprises

WWE RAW logo

Venue: Baltimore Arena (Baltimore, MD)

Commentators: Michael Cole & JBL

The first RAW of 2014 carried the “Old School” theme and boy did they run with it: from having Ric Flair open the show to featuring a Piper’s Pit segment with Roddy Piper grilling The Shield, the nostalgia was in full force. But other stuff happened on the show including a big Royal Rumble announcement, Brock Lesnar once again targeting Mark Henry, the debut of Daniel Bryan‘s new “Wyatt Family” look, and much more.

Read on for results and notes from the show, culled from James Caldwell‘s much more detailed and interesting coverage/review over at PWTorch.

Match Results

1. Rey Mysterio The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) defeated Daniel Bryan The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Erick Rowan) [w/ Bray Wyatt] when one of the Usos pinned Luke Harper with a roll-up (8:40).

  • Notes: This was Daniel Bryan’s “coming out” as a member of The Wyatt Family. He wore garbage man-style blue overalls and held a stone-faced demeanor for the segment. Bryan also had a more vicious streak with his offense. The conclusion of the match saw Harper tag himself in and getting rolled up while he was distracted telling Bryan to get out of the ring.
  • Post-Match: Bray Wyatt confronted Luke Harper about what happened.

2. Non-Title Match: *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E Langston defeated Curtis Axel [w/ Ryback] via pinfall with the BIG ENDING (2:43).

  • Before the Match: Langston stalked the halls, passing by legends like Nikolai Volkoff (singing the Russian national anthem), Ted DiBiase (doing his laugh), and I.R.S. (talking about taxes) in an effort to drive the “GET IT, IT’S OLD SCHOOL RAW” message across to those watching at home.
  • Notes: Ryback was on commentary for the match to sell a potential showdown with Langston in the future. It was brought up that Ryback has never won a singles title and he didn’t take kindly to it.

3. Alberto Del Rio defeated Sin Cara via pinfall (2:17).

  • Post-Match: Del Rio announced that he was gonna take part in the Royal Rumble match and promised to be the one to throw Batista out of the ring.

4. Non-Title Match: *WWE Tag Team Champions* Cody Rhodes & Goldust defeated The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter] when Goldust pinned Jack Swagger with the FINAL CUT (11:44).

5. The Great Khali [w/ Ranjin Singh] defeated Damien Sandow via pinfall with the BRAIN CHOP (1:58).

  • Notes: Sgt. Slaughter was voted as the special guest ref for the match via the WWE App. The other two candidates were Bob Backlund and Arn Anderson.
  • Post-Match: Sandow argued with Slaughter, saying his foot was under the bottom rope (it was), and shoved him. Slaughter then applied the Cobra Clutch, knocking him out. Slaughter, Khali, and Singh proceeded to dance. I hope this is cut out of the Hulu version of Raw.

6. Aksana & Alicia Fox defeated The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) when Fox pinned Brie (3:48).

7. Rikishi Too Cool (Grandmaster Sexay & Scotty 2 Hotty) defeated 3MB (Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, & Drew McIntyre) when Rikishi pinned Mahal (5:23).

  • Notes: This was Slater’s return to the WWE and to 3MB, and a picture in promo played before the match to announce their “reunion”.
  • Post-Match: Too Cool did their dance because old school.

8. Roman Reigns [w/ *WWE U.S. Champion* Dean Ambrose Seth Rollins] defeated CM Punk via pinfall with the SPEAR (16:23).

  • Before the Match: “Mean” Gene Okerlund cracked a Hotline joke on stage then introduced The New Age Outlaws. Road Dogg did his “old school” introduction because duh.
  • Post-Match: The Shield commenced with a beatdown on Punk until Jake “The Snake” Roberts surprisingly made his way out to the ring. The New Age Outlaws dispensed of Reigns and Rollins as Punk laid Ambrose out with the GTS. Roberts then laid the snake over Ambrose and that concluded the episode.

(Important) Segments and Other Notes

Ric Flair opened the show and said some words before WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton interrupted him. Orton said some nice words about Flair then talked about himself a bit, saying Cena didn’t deserve a rematch at the Royal Rumble. Flair told him to man up and Orton called him the most overrated superstar in history. All of this hulabaloo was interrupted by John Cena who came out, said some words, then got ready to fight. Orton bailed out of the ring instead. Cena and Flair hugged as Orton posed with his championships.

Roddy Piper hosted a “Piper’s Pit” with special guests The Shield. Piper goaded Dean Ambrose saying the only man who could match “Hot Rod” on the mic was CM Punk. He then said neither Ambrose or Rollins could beat Punk one-on-one then turned to Roman Reigns and asked him if he would be considered better than his Shield stablemates if he defeated Punk tonight. Things almost got physical but CM Punk and The New Age Outlaws (?!?) made their way out to ignite a six-man brawl instead.

Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman had another in-ring segment. They hyped up his impending WWE World Heavyweight Championship shot until Mark Henry made his way back out, favoring his ribs after last week. Lesnar proceeded to lock him in the Kimura and “snapped” the arm. The Big Show then made his way out and eventually sent Lesnar flying when he attempted to attack from behind. Show sold stoic determination.

Jerry Lawler wasn’t on commentary due to a stomach virus caused by bad food. He explained as much on the WWE App.

-Other legends featured throughout the show included The Godfather, “Diamond” Dallas Page, Booker T, and many more.

Batista was announced as an entrant into the 2013 Royal Rumble, and will return to RAW in two weeks to hype that up.

-Announced for next week’s RAW: Daniel Bryan teams with Bray Wyatt to face The Usos.

‘WWE RAW’ 12/16/13 Results + Notes – Bryan Vs. Orton, Shawn Michaels Confronts CM Punk, Brodus Clay Done Being Funky

WWE RAW logo

Venue: American Airlines Center (Dallas, TX)

Commentators: Michael Cole, JBL, & Jerry Lawler

One night removed from unifying the World Titles, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton saw non-title action in the main event of this week’s RAW against arguably his biggest rival Daniel BryanShawn Michaels also made a surprise appearance to jaw with CM PunkBrodus Clay finally had enough of Tons of Funk, and the WWE Tag Team Champions lost another non-title match.

Read on for results and notes from the show. I was at the show live but didn’t keep match times.

Match Results

1. Non-Title Match: Rey Mysterio & The Big Show defeated *WWE Tag Team Champions* Cody Rhodes & Goldust when Mysterio pinned Goldust.

  • Notes: Mysterio & Show were voted by the WWE Universe to face Rhodes & Goldust on WWE.com.

2. Dolph Ziggler defeated Fandango [w/ Summer Rae] via pinfall with an inside cradle.

3. *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E Langston Mark Henry defeated The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter] when Langston pinned Cesaro with the BIG ENDING.

  • Live Notes: The TX crowd ragged on Swagger the entire night for his OU background and he played to that heat beautifully. Henry also joined in, using the Longhorn hand gesture to get the crowd even more on his side.

4. Ryback & Curtis Axel defeated Tons of Funk (Brodus Clay & Tensai) [w/ The Funkadactyls] when Ryback pinned Tensai with SHELL SHOCK.

  • Post-Match: Clay splashed Tensai repeatedly until R-Truth and Xavier Woods (who were on commentary for the match) intervened. Clay walked off and spouted off once more about being a main event player. Truth invited The Funkadactyls to come dance with he and Woods and that they did…while Tensai was still motionless from being splashed.

5. The Shield (*WWE United States Champion* Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns) defeated CM Punk & The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) when Reigns pinned Punk with a SPEAR.

  • Note: The Usos were voted in as Punk’s partners via the WWE App.
  • Live Notes: Punk was awesome throughout the match, totally getting into the Usos chants and playing the cheerleader babyface role better than I expected him to. He appeared to be actually enjoying himself which was a nice change of pace.

6. *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka, Alicia Fox defeated Natalya The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) when Lee pinned Nikki Bella following a running knee.

  • Notes: Nikki Bella covered her face for the remainder of the match following a stiff superkick from Snuka, signaling she either broke her nose or lost some teeth during that exchange.

7. Non-Title Match: Daniel Bryan defeated *WWE World Heavyweight Champion* Randy Orton via DQ when Orton caught Bryan with a low-blow.

  • Live Notes: Orton started bleeding early in the match and was patched up by the ringside doctor during what I assume was the commercial. The crowd was absolutely insane for this match throughout, louder than for anything else during the show.
  • Post-Match: John Cena came out after the match and laid into Orton, but was caught with an RKO when he went to check on Bryan after. Orton posed with both belts to end the episode.
  • Off-Air: John Cena beat Randy Orton via DQ in a dark match with special guest referee Booker T. Cena then hit Orton with an Attitude Adjustement and Booker T did a Spinerooni to send the fans home happy.

Important Segments

-The episode opened with the entire WWE roster (including The Wyatts!) on the stage. Triple H & Stephanie McMahon made their way out and introduced new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton to the ring. Orton cut a celebratory promo then was cut off by John Cena who apparently had a mic. Cena told Orton to put up or shut up and to wrestle Daniel Bryan (which the Dallas crowd was all for). Orton didn’t want to but Triple H & Stephanie signed the match anyway much to his chagrin. It eventually was shown to be non-title but that wasn’t known at the time by anyone in the arena until the graphic showed on the TitanTron later on.

CM Punk cut a celebratory promo about The Shield then once again accused The Authority of wanting to punish him for his comments made towards Triple H. He invited Trips to come out and discuss this but instead out came Shawn Michaels to a loud ovation. The cheers quickly turned into a “YOU SOLD OUT!” chant which Michaels brilliantly mocked the crowd about when they couldn’t keep it up. Michaels then brought up the fact he was the one who superkicked Punk last week and Punk said he would let that slide out of respect but if it happens again he’s going to kick back. Michaels then segued into The Shield making their way out for the six man tag team match.

Bray Wyatt cut an ominous promo on the TitanTron to “Sister Abigail” (his empty rocking chair), calling Daniel Bryan a coward and saying he thought he could save him. Luke Harper then piped in saying that Bryan would burn with the saints, teasing more attacks in the future.

“Last Monday on RAW” Video: The Championship Ascension Ceremony ends in chaos as a brawl erupts, Randy Orton accidentally knocks Stephanie McMahon out, and Triple H gives Orton a Pedigree for this transgression.

—–

We go “live” to the arena, which is decked out with tables, ladders, and chairs all around the ring and entrance area. The WWE and World Heavyweight Championship belts hang high above the ring. After a brief spiel from Michael Cole out comes Daniel Bryan for the opening match. He brings his “Superstar of the Year” Slammy award with him. Bray Wyatt makes his way out second with his magically not fire-lit lantern, sits down in his rocking chair, then “blows it out”. The lights go back on and Bryan’s opponent, Erick Rowan, is already in the ring. Luke Harper takes off Rowan’s sheep mask while standing on the apron.

—–

Match #1: Daniel Bryan Vs. Erick Rowan [w/ Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper]

Rowan immediately goes at Bryan with brute force as the bell rings. Bryan ducks a clothesline and connects with a flying forearm. Bryan hits a series of hamstring kicks but eats a knee to the gut then gets knocked down with a standing bodyblock. Rowan tries to send Bryan through the mat with a scoop slam then applies a bear hug in the center of the ring. Bryan elbows out then takes it to Rowan with a series of forearm. Rowan catches Bryan mid-crossbody attempt and connects with a fallaway slam. Rowan follows up with a corner splash then covers for 2. Rowan lays Bryan over the top turnbuckle and clubs him repeatedly. Bryan gets his boot up during another splash attempt and follows up with a second-rope front-facing missile dropkick.

Bryan hits a series of Yes! Kicks, concluding with the boot to the head. Harper climbs the apron and Bryan dropkicks him off. Bryan escapes a slam attempt, ducks a clothesline, then takes Harper out ringside with a tope suicida. Rowan charges and Bryan holds down the top rope, sending him toppling out to the floor as well. Bryan goes for a double tope suicida but Wyatt trips him up, causing a DQ.

Winner [via DQ]: Daniel Bryan (3:07)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A short match to whet the appetite for Sunday’s handicap contest. Not much to say about it as not much happened, really.

Post-Match: Harper and Rowan attempt a double team but Bryan escapes and connects with a BUSAIKU KNEE on Wyatt who’s still sitting in his rocking chair. Bryan celebrates on the entrance stage as Harper and Rowan stare him down while checking on their leader.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Bryan escaping the attempted two-on-one attack and concluding with the knee on Wyatt was excellent and was a simple way to show that he possibly stands a chance against the trio come Sunday. Cole continued to question whether Bryan would join them or not. Part of me hopes he does, part of me doesn’t.

The Real Americans make their entrance as we return from commercial. Zeb Colter gets on the mic and the crowd boos before he even utters a word. Colter says that earlier today he walked around Portland and out of nowhere he was accosted by a bearded freak in a Santa Claus costume with his hand out uttering “Feliz Navi-DAD”. Colter says a Spanish-speaking person asking for a handout sounds to him like an illegal immigrant, and says if he could deport “Senor Claus” he would. Colter says he doesn’t like people sneaking across the borders, especially from the North Pole, then does the “WE! THE PEOPLE!” schtick. Their opponents, Cody Rhodes & Goldust, make their way out second.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Colter’s random rant against a Spanish dude dressed as Santa was supposed to be funny in a lame way I guess but it just caused me to roll my eyes. Felt uninspired and lazy.

—–

Match #2: *WWE Tag Team Champions* Cody Rhodes & Goldust Vs. The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Antonio Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter] in a NON-TITLE MATCH

Goldust and Cesaro start. Cesaro applies a wristlock but Goldust escapes and connects with a shouldertackle for 1. Goldust hits an armdrag then tags Rhodes, who hits an elbowdrop on Cesaro’s arm. Cesaro catches Rhodes with a kick then tags out to Swagger. Swagger works Rhodes over in the corner with some rights then Cesaro tags back in to stomp their foe down. Cesaro connects with a European uppercut and Swagger tags back in, sending him face-first into the corner. Swagger connects with a shoulderblock to the midsection then sends him flying into the opposite turnbuckles. Swagger misses the Swagger Bomb then gets sent head-first into the second turnbuckle via drop toehold. Goldust tags in and is a house of fire, connecting with an inverted atomic drop and spinebuster. Cesaro gets a blind tag and tosses Goldust out of the ring while he’s distracted. Cesaro clotheslines Goldust on the outside then does a “WE! THE PEOPLE!” as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Swagger has Goldust in a front facelock as we return from the break. Goldust escapes and kicks Swagger but Swagger backs him into the corner when he tries for a tag. Cesaro tags in and hits a European uppercut that sends Goldust to the mat. Cesaro chokes him with his boot then tags Swagger back in. Swagger hits a belly-to-belly suplex then doesn’t do anything for a few awkwardly long seconds before applying a sleeperhold. Goldust fights out then escapes The Real Americans’ corner. Swagger prevents the tag with an Irish whip but Goldust scales the second rope and he and Swagger end up knocking heads on their way down.

Cesaro tags in but so does Rhodes and it’s the latter with the advantage. Rhodes connects with a flying knee followed by a back elbow, then connects with a sunset flip for 2. Rhodes connects with an Alabama Slam for the 1…2…Cesaro grabs the bottom rope. Rhodes measures Cesaro but misses the Disaster Kick. Cesaro goes for the Cesaro Swing but Goldust prevents it. Cesaro sends him out but runs into a DISASTER KICK and Rhodes covers for the 1…2…Swagger breaks up the count. Rhodes sends both Real Americans out to the floor then wipes Cesaro out with a springboard splash. Rhodes rolls Cesaro back in and heads to the top rope for the moonsault. Cesaro grabs him by the wrist and connects with a european uppercut for the 1…2…3!

Winners [via Pinfall]: The Real Americans (10:14)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: I get on WWE for repeating matches week in and week out but I don’t think I’ll get tired of Rhodes Bros/Real Americans any time soon. These two teams work so damn well together. Who knew The Real Americans would gel this well as a unit? My only real gripe is that I feel like I keep seeing the Tag Champs lose lately. Even they can’t escape the “secondary champions barely win” trope.

TLC 2013 Hype Video: Cena Vs. Orton. It’s the same video that aired on Main Event and Superstars.

—–

We go ringside where Wade Barrett is at his podium, complete with a gavel (!!!). Barrett says the fans surpassed themselves for their record voting during the Slammy Awards, breathing fresh hope (?) into an otherwise worthless group of superstars. However Barrett has some, ahem, BAD NEWS: while the fans were voting for the winners they were the ones who were losers because their opinions are worthless and they are forced to live vicariously through people like himself. Hashtag out.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: The addition of the gavel is a nice touch and this was actually a decently-scripted Bad News segment. I laughed. Finally.

Mark Henry makes his entrance for the next match. WWE Intercontinental Champ Big E Langston has joined the commentary team for the match, meaning that Henry’s opponent is Damien Sandow.

—–

Match #3: Mark Henry Vs. Damien Sandow

Henry sends Sandow to the mat off the collar-and-elbow lockup. Sandow grabs a side headlock and gets taken down with a shoulderblock. Henry follows up with a headbutt then whips him into the corner. Sandow gets the boot up during a corner splash attempt and takes it to Henry with a series of forearms. Henry whips Sandow into the ropes and connects with a big boot, sending him rolling outside to the floor. Sandow refuses to get back into the ring and he’s counted out.

Winner [via Countout]: Mark Henry (1:21)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Whatever. Henry’s one step away from reforming his tag team with Yoshi Tatsu.

Post-Match: Langston sends Sandow into the ring and Henry takes him down. Sandow hits Langston and escapes the ring. Langston and Sandow jaw, then the former runs chases the latter up the ramp.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Real talk: Langston/Sandow is one of the main reasons I considered buying TLC 2013. I’m not going to, nor am I gonna watch it for a long time, but still. I likes me a good secondary title feud…or any secondary title feud. I’ll take what I can get at this point.

A shot of AJ Lee Tamina Snuka backstage is shown. They’re in action next!

  • Jon’s Thoughts: That generic poppy Divas theme music WWE likes to use does wonders for making the division seem legitimate.

Booker T is on WWEShop merch stand duty this time around.

AJ Lee and Tamina Snuka finish their entrance as we return to the ring. Their opponents, The Bella Twins, are already there and they are holding their “Diva of the Year” Slammy up in the air to taunt Lee as well as the WWE Universe who couldn’t have possibly voted for that to happen. Natalya is at the announce table to hype her Divas Championship with Lee this Sunday.

—–

Match #3: The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie Bella) Vs. *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee & Tamina Snuka

Nikki and Snuka start. Snuka overpowers her to the mat then knocks Brie off of the apron. Nikki ducks a clothesline and hits a tilt-a-whirl headscissors before hitting Lee with a Thesz press. Snuka pulls Nikki off of her then hits a snap suplex. Snuka drives the knee into the spine and follows up with a Samoan drop. Lee begs for the tag and in she comes. Lee immediately goes for the cover but only gets 2. Lee applies a backpack sleeper but Nikki whips her off. Nikki dodges a corner splash attempt and in comes Brie with a clothesline followed by back to back dropkicks. Brie takes Snuka off the apron then hits a second-rope missile dropkick on Lee for the 1…2…Snuka breaks it up. The Bellas clear Snuka out of the ring, but Lee shoves Brie into Nikki and then applies the BLACK WIDOW for the tap-out victory.

Winners [via Submission]: AJ Lee & Tamina Snuka (2:35)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Quick and painless Divas match. Natalya isn’t great on commentary. She’s gonna probably end up becoming Divas Champ on Sunday and I’m already rolling my eyes at that result. Lee is top dog in that division and no one even comes close…though Brie Bella might in time. She wasn’t bad this week.

Post-Match: Lee and Natalya have a staredown while Tamina Snuka continues existing just because.

John Cena’s Final TLC 2013 Hard Sell

“My Time is Now” kicks up, bringing out World Heavyweight Champion John Cena to the ring. Cena hypes up the crowd a little bit then points up to the two titles hanging in there, calling them trophies men have worked their entire lives for. He says that 99% of the WWE superstars will never hold either title. Cena says the reason he and Orton willingly gave them up on Monday was because of the monumental impact promised on Sunday and because the unification needs to happen. Cena then says unfortunately Randy Orton doesn’t know what it will take to make it happen. He goes into his 12 year history with Orton, saying he knows what he is capable of. Cena says Orton is the Apex Predator like he says he is but also has a glass jaw, homie (his words, not mine). Cena says whenever things don’t go Orton’s way he runs and hides but on Sunday he has nowhere to run or hide. Cena asks Orton what he’s gonna do when his eye swells shut or his hands go numb. Cena says if that happens to him he’s going to get back up because he was built to fight the Apex Predator. Cena says he always gets back up and it’ll happen again Sunday.

Cena says Orton is great but he will fail on Sunday because there will come a point where he’ll have to make a choice between fighting and taking the easy way out and he’ll end up choosing the latter because he ain’t got the NUTS. Cena says this Sunday the WWE crowns one champion and that champ…is…here. Cena poses as his music kicks back up.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: …well that was certainly a lackluster and unenergetic way to build up the “historic” unification match. At this point the WWE has done all it can do to hype things up but they should have saved some of that for this show. Flat as hell.

Ambrose is now on commentary. The Usos do their Siva Tau entrance as Ambrose hypes the handicap match against CM Punk on Sunday. Ambrose admits that The Usos’ “UUUUU…SOS!” thing is fun. That was cute.

Match #4: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) Vs. The Shield (Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns) [w/ *WWE United States Champion* Dean Ambrose]

Jimmy and Rollins start off. Rollins escapes a side headlock but gets taken down with a shoulderblock. Rollins leapfrogs Jimmy but eats a European uppercut. Jimmy catches Rollins with a right and in comes Jey for a clothesline. Jey covers but only gets 1. Jimmy tags back in and Jey hits a flying top-rope forearm on Rollins while Jimmy holds him in a backbreaker position. Jimmy covers for 2 then in comes Jey with an armbar. Reigns gets a blind tag and catches Jey with a back elbow. Reigns hits a series of forearms and stomps Jey. Rollins tags back in and stomps Jey repeatedly while Rollins holds on. Rollins chops Jey and Jey responds with a right hand. Jey ducks a clothesline and hits Rollins with a clothesline. Jimmy tags in and they hit a double superkick on Reigns, sending him out to the floor. Rollins is soon sent out to the floor and The Usos stand tall as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Rollins goes for a backslide on Jimmy but Jimmy reverses into one of his own for a 2-count. Rollins takes Jimmy down with a running forearm then tags in Reigns. The Shield turns Jimmy into a human wishbone then Reigns wipes him out with a running clothesline for 2. Rollins connects with a headbutt then applies a rear-chinlock. Jimmy gets to his feet and escapes a jawbreaker but runs right into a clothesline. Rollins tags in and Jimmy takes them both out before Jey gets the hot tag. Jey hits Rollins with back to back clotheslines followed by a superkick to the midsection and a right hand. Jey flattens Rollins with a running shoulderblock then hits a forearm in the corner. Jey clears Reigns from the apron then hits Rollins with a Samoan drop for the 1…2…KICKOUT.

Jey sends Reigns out to the floor with a clothesline and hits Rollins with a superkick. Jey heads to the top turnbuckle but Rollins rolls out to the floor. Jey doesn’t care though and connects with a splash to the floor. Reigns comes out of nowhere and hits Jimmy with a spear, Rollins connecting with a clothesline on Jey. Rollins throws Jey into the ring post and Rollins rolls back in. Jey rolls back in the ring at 9 but Rollins curb stomps him immediately. Rollins then arrogantly signals for the GTS and tags in Reigns. Rollins lifts Jey in a fireman’s carry position but drops him down and Reigns takes him out with an awesome SPEAR for the 1…2…3.

Winners [via Pinfall]: The Shield (TNR)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A competitive tag team match with an awesome finish. Rollins’ sarcastic GTS signaling was great. The commentary was also good as well with Ambrose holding his own out there, juggling TLC hype as well as the still-simmering potential Shield breakup.

Post-Match: The Shield do their in-ring pose but then all of a sudden CM Punk appears on the TitanTron, live from an “undisclosed location”. Punk reveals that it’s just a basement in the arena then comments on how filthy it is. Punk says he understands this is where The Shield likes to send their messages but he also likes to send messages himself like he did on Monday. Punk says he believes it’s 3-on-1 this Sunday and he believes that he’s walking into a wholesale slaughter. Punk says he might be going down but the question The Shield needs to ask themselves is: how many is he going to take with him? Punk says he believes the last two times he’s been in the ring with The Shield he’s exposed their weaknesses. Punk concludes with “BELIEVE…in the Best…in the World!”. We cut back to the arena where Ambrose and Reigns stare angrily and Rollins is all “WE GOT THIS!”.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Basic promo from Punk to hype the match this Sunday; the fact he was doing so while taping his fists was probably supposed to be badass but it just made me laugh. Macho nonsense like that tends to do that to me, though.

Ryback is already in the ring for the next match, joined by his tag team partner Curtis Axel. His opponent, The Big Show, makes his way out next joined alongside his tag partner Rey Mysterio. Show teases climbing a ladder then laughs it off. Cole announces Rhodes Bros. Vs. Show/Mysterio Vs. Ryback/Axel Vs. The Real Americans for the WWE Tag Team Championship at TLC 2013.

—–

Match #5: The Big Show [w/ Rey Mysterio] Vs. Ryback [w/ Curtis Axel]

Ryback goes for a kick but Show catches it and chops him. Show sends Ryback into the corner then chops him again. Ryback fights back a bit but Show overpowers him and chops him once more. Ryback connects with some rights but runs right into back to back clotheslines. Show whips Ryback into the corner, connects with a splash…and runs right into a spinebuster by Ryback for 2. Ryback pulls the straps down and readies the Meat Hook Clothesline. Ryback runs at Show, who goozles him and connects with the CHOKESLAM for the 1…2…3.

Winner [via Pinfall]: The Big Show (1:44)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Show’s fall from grace might have been faster than Mark Henry’s. They should be the tag team.

Post-Match: Axel attacks Show from behind. Show throws him into the ropes and Mysterio hits him with the 619. Axel coils back and Show finishes him off with the KO Punch. Show and Mysterio celebrate as the former’s music plays.

—–

Earlier on Smackdown Video: Daniel Bryan hits Bray Wyatt with the BUSAIKU KNEE.

This video clip segues into a backstage promo from Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family. Wyatt says he saw something in Bryan but he was a fool for putting his neck on the line for him. Wyatt calls Bryan a deceiver and starts maniacally laughing. Wyatt then sings Bryan a special lullaby, one that he sings to all of his pets before he puts them down. Wyatt tells Bryan he’ll see him Sunday.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Given that ADR suffered a concussion on Monday it was no surprise this match didn’t happen. That being said whatever to this Miz/Kingston feud.

Randy Orton Apologizes

“Voices” kicks up bringing out WWE Champion Randy Orton to the ring for the final segment of the show. Orton says last Monday an “unspeakable accident” took place, marring what was supposed to be an historic night. Orton says he can’t get the image of Stephanie McMahon being KO’ed out of his head and says he’s here to apologize…but wants to do it face to face. Triple H makes his way out to hear what Orton has to say. Orton says they have been to hell and back but Triple H knows him better than anyone and he has to know that what happened to Stephanie was an accident. Orton motions to the TitanTron where footage from what happened on Monday is shown.

We go back “live” and Orton says if Triple H still doubts him he has more footage. We go back to the TitanTron and we see slow-motion footage of Daniel Bryan pushing Orton into Steph on Monday. Back live Orton says a lot of things went wrong and he’d like Triple H and his wife to accept his humble apology. Triple H says if Orton called him out to show him some footage he didn’t need to because he’s seen it over and over already since he runs the company (THANK YOU). Triple H says lots of people have things to apologize for but he doesn’t because he’s the authority. Triple H says they both know he could fire Orton for this. A “YES!” chant breaks out in approval of this idea.

Triple H says he’s not going to fire Orton because that wouldn’t be best for business and since a lot went wrong on Monday for this one time he’s going to accept Orton’s apology. Orton thanks Triple H then points back at the TitanTron where we see footage of John Cena helping up Steph and hanging with The Authority. Orton asks for an explanation, then says he’ll be the champion of champions come Sunday. Orton asks Triple H if The Authority if they have the same amount of faith in him as he does. Triple H tells Orton not to worry about it and they shake hands, then says he knows exactly where The Authority’s faith lies. Triple H exits, leaving Orton still questioning what’s going on while struggling to accept Triple H’s words. This concludes the episode.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Having a unification match is big enough without trying to throw all of this Authority intrigue bullshit into the mix. Cena’s obviously not turning heel so that’s not even a realistic option and Triple H trying to be ominous makes it sound more like he’s gonna just grab the damn belts for himself (which honestly could be genius since that would play into how the territories used to work, the owner being the champ). I could care less about this added wrinkle but it’s shoved down my throat anyway so whatever. This was a thing that concluded a show that existed.

*****

Overall Show Thoughts

  • A dull episode of Smackdown with one good match and not much else. If this was still a show WWE fans actually watched it would have been a terrible way to sell TLC 2013; actually that aside it still was a pretty bad way to sell the PPV. Skip this entire damn show and spend those two hours doing something constructive instead.
