Jerome’s WWE MAIN EVENT 5/27/14 Results + Review – Usos vs. Wyatts, Natalya vs. Brie Bella, Sandow vs. R-Truth, Rhodes vs. Axel

mainevent

Commentators: Tom Phillips & Byron Saxton

This week on Main Event Cody Rhodes takes on Curtis Axel. Damian Sandow wrestles R-Truth again. And in the main event, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan take on the Usos in a rematch from last Friday’s Smaccdown.

 Match Results

  1. Curtis Axel defeated Cody Rhodes via pinfall with the roll-up (4:34). [*]
  2. R-Truth defeated Damien Sandow via pinfall with a flatliner (2:33). [*]
  3. Natalya defeated Brie Bella (w/Nikki Bella) by submission with the sharpshooter (3:32-). [*]
  4. Non-Title: The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan w/Bray Wyatt) defeat The Usos (Jimmy and Jay Uso) (WWE Tag Team Champions) by pinfall (10:33 shown). [**1/2]

 News + Notes

  • They showed WWE.com exclusive footage of Rybaxel making fun of the Rhodes’s brothers for their losing ways. Number one: #BeAStar. Number two. It’s not WWE.com exclusive if they show it on television.
  • Goldust and Ryback brawled on the outside. Cody hit his kick on Ryback to knock him off the apron and became distracted, leading to the loss.
  • They actually showed Sandow pinning R-Truth last week. Good news is continuity. Bad news sis they’ve wrestled one million times and every match has been two stars. Damien Sandow came out as D-Sizzle. Remember when he was a Money in the Bank winner and a potential WWE champion? Feels like years ago.
  • Brie was emotional after the match, obviously building off what’s been going on with her husband.
  • Usos got more promo time and said the Wyatts aren’t a real family. They say John Cena will be the last man standing at Payback. There ya go.
  • LUKE HARPER speaks! Threats are directed at the Usos and John Cena. He says some bonds are stronger than blood in putting over his own version of a family.
  • There was a beatdown and 10 count of the Usos after the match.

REVIEW

CURTIS AXEL VS. CODY RHODES If there’s a more boring wrestler than Curtis Axel in the United States, please point him or her out to me. I understand Rhodes losing… no I don’t. How does him losing a million matches in a row to a bunch of geeks help him out before a heel turn. This feels like the slowest turn in history because WWE has like 10 hours of television a week.

DAMIEN SANDOW VS. R-TRUTH Sandow’s rap was something. After getting 15 mind numbing minutes last week, they got three minutes this week and exchanged wins, thus doing nothing for either guy. Is it any wonder fans don’t give a hoot about wrestling matches when guys are exchanging wins and losses for no reason, and the announcers are making jokes at ringside.

NATALYA VS. BRIE BELLA Natalya has an NXT championship match on Thursday night while Brie has been dealing with her husband’s issues. The announcers are talking about Daniel Bryan. These two actually got to do some wrestling, which the crowd could give a hoot about. The Bellas are much better than people will give them credit for, but they’ll always have a certain reputation from fans. Natalya actually countered into the sharpshooter for the win.

THE WYATT FAMILY VS. THE USOS Decent match. Didn’t really see much of a difference from the Smackdown match except no John Cena. At least this match got a bit more time and a finish. I can only assume the Wyatts will get a tag team title match against the Usos. Harper hit a nice Michinoku driver. I dig both teams, so a PPV match could absolutely steal the show if given time.

Overall

After watching Superstars, Smackdown, and Main Event the last seven days, I can’t see why people bother watching these shows except for the occasional good match that pops up. WWE clearly doesn’t put any effort into these programs, which is a shame because there’s a big enough roster to give everyone something to do on each of the shows.

‘WWE RAW’ 3/17/14 Results + Notes – Another WrestleMania XXX Shakeup, Triple H Responds to Daniel Bryan, Cena Speaks on Wyatt, The Shield Switch Sides

WWE RAW logo

Venue: AT&T Center (San Antonio, TX)

Commentators: Michael Cole, JBL, & Jerry Lawler

One week after agreeing to face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX, Triple H responds to the events that transpired the only way he knows how: violence. But before that he has an announcement concerning the main event for the “Showcase of the Immortals” that shakes things up some more. Also on the show The Shield switch their allegiance, The Usos take on The Real Americans in non-title action, Paul Heyman continues his Don King-like sell of Brock Lesnar’s impending meeting with The Undertaker, and John Cena admits that he fears Bray Wyatt.

Results and notes are gathered from James Caldwell‘s much more detailed recap/analysis over at PWTorch.

MATCH RESULTS/NOTES

1. Non-Title Match: The Real Americans (Jack Swagger & Cesaro) [w/ Zeb Colter] defeated *WWE Tag Team Champions* The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) when Cesaro pinned Jey with THE NEUTRALIZER (12:20).

  • Note: No sign of dissension this week between The Real Americans, as it was explained that Zeb Colter had been spending time getting both men back on the same page.

2. Sheamus [w/ Hornswoggle] defeated Titus O’Neil via pinfall with the BROGUE KICK (4:07).

  • Before the Match: Hornswoggle returned, handing out gifts to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. He was interrupted by Wade Barrett who gave some BAD NEWS about the holiday (people are gonna vomit and make bad decisions due to too much alcohol). Sheamus then made his way out in an Irish rugby jersey and Hornswoggle joined him at ringside in Irish solidarity.
  • Note: Christian sat in on commentary for the match.
  • Post-Match: Renee Young interviewed Sheamus in the ring. Sheamus announced he would be participating in the Andre The Giant Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX. Christian attacked Sheamus afterwards and laid him out with an UNPRETTIER on the floor.

3. Non-Title No DQ Match: Daniel Bryan defeated *WWE World Heavyweight Champion* Randy Orton via pinfall (14:28).

  • The Finish: Batista came out and speared Orton, then Bryan dropped him off the apron with a dropkick and covered Orton for the victory.
  • Post-Match: Batista gave Orton a BATISTA BOMB.

4. Goldust [w/ Cody Rhodes] defeated Fandango [w/ Summer Rae] via pinfall with the FINAL CUT (5:10).

5. The Funkadactyls (Cameron & Naomi) defeated *WWE Divas Champion* AJ Lee Tamina Snuka when Naomi pinned Lee (3:40).

  • Notes: This was Naomi’s first match since her eye injury, and she sported an eyepatch during the contest. The Bella Twins sat in on commentary.
  • Post-Match: Lee shoved Snuka, and Snuka shoved back but they just stared each other down after to end the segment.

6. The Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Mark Henry, & *WWE Intercontinental Champion* Big E defeated Damien Sandow, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Alberto Del Rio when Show pinned Sandow with a CHOKESLAM (11:57).

  • Note: This was a match to help hype the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX.

7. Bray Wyatt [w/ Luke Harper & Erick Rowan] defeated Kofi Kingston via pinfall with SISTER ABIGAIL (2:55).

SEGMENTS/NOTES

Triple H opened the show, saying he would end the Yes! Movement at WrestleMania XXX and wanted to talk to Daniel Bryan face to face later. He was interrupted by both Batista and Randy Orton who protested the fact that Daniel Bryan would get put into the main event if he won against Triple H. Triple H announced that Orton would face Bryan in a No-DQ match later in the show. Trips then made a big WrestleMania XXX announcement: if he beats Bryan in their match then he will be inserted into the Batista/Orton main event, so either way the biggest show of the year will end up being a triple threat match. Batista was pissed and Orton dropped him with an RKO before posing to end the segment.

John Cena came out to talk about The Wyatt Family. He admitted that he was scared of Bray Wyatt then said at WrestleMania XXX he would be fighting for his own legacy. Wyatt interrupted via TitanTron, sporting a Cena t-shirt, who said he doesn’t care if he dies as long as everyone sees Cena the way he sees him at the end of their match.

Paul Heyman cut another promo about The Undertaker on behalf of his client Brock Lesnar. It was announced later in the show that Taker will be on Main Event to respond.

Kane made his way to the ring and said after some investigating he found out that Jerry Lawler was the one who helped Daniel Bryan execute the “OccupyRAW” movement last week. Lawler plead innocence and refused to enter the ring when Kane asked, so Kane then called out The Shield to administer justice. Instead of attacking Lawler, however, The Shield attacked Kane instead, dropping him with a Triple Powerbomb and effectively turning face.

Mr. T was officially announced as the latest inductee into the WWE Hall Of Fame.

Triple H came out for the final segment and introduced Daniel Bryan to the ring. Triple H told Bryan that everything that has happened since Summerslam hasn’t been personal, it was about what was best for the WWE. However what Bryan did last week “crossed the line” and now he had to shut down the Yes! Movement come WrestleMania XXX. Triple H then told Bryan he has at least earned his respect. Stephanie McMahon then made her way out and said what Bryan did last week was illegal and was formally pressing charges. She brought out police officers, who cuffed Bryan. Triple H then said he didn’t want any of this…but they WEREN’T REAL COPS ANYWAY. Triple H then said he was looking forward to this, and began his savage attack on Bryan which included smashing his head against the steel post with a chair, all the while Steph watched with glee. Triple H finished Bryan with a Pedigree and he and his wife stood tall over the fallen Bryan to end the episode.

Also on the show John Cena took on The Wyatt Family’s Erick RowanThe Undertaker made an appearance and raised the ire of Paul HeymanSheamus and Christian continued their war, and in the main event Bryan and The Big Show took on WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton and his challenger at WM XXX Batista in tag team action.

SEGMENTS/NOTES

Hulk Hogan came out to open the show. He announced a special 30 man “Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal” for WrestleMania XXX with the winner receiving a special trophy. John Cena eventually made his way out and they nerded out over one another until The Wyatt Family interrupted. Bray Wyatt told Cena if he looked him square in the eyes he’d see a god. Cena brushed it off and challenged Wyatt to a match at WrestleMania XXX. He didn’t immediately accept, and it led into the Cena/Rowan match that started the show. Later on in the episode, during a recap of this segment, The Wyatt Family interrupted via backstage promo and Bray Wyatt accepted the challenge so that match is a go.

The Undertaker made his way out to the ring and was immediately interrupted by Paul Heyman. Heyman told Taker to not even show up at WrestleMania XXX lest his streak be finally destroyed. Taker responded by saying Lesnar would “rest in peace” come April.

Daniel Bryan made his way out and “occupied” the show by having a whole host of fans fill the ring and ringside area all in “YES!” shirts as a way to finally get Triple H to accept his WrestleMania XXX challenge. An angry Triple H finally accepted then Bryan added a stipulation: if he beats Triple H he gets inserted into the Orton/Batista match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Triple H charged at the ring but was held back by security and he angrily agreed to that as well.

Kane makes his way out for the opening match as Tom Phillips welcomes the home audience. He’s joined as usual by Byron Saxton, and the two talk about what happened last night on RAW. Kane’s opponent, Daniel Bryan, makes his way out second. Bryan is all seriousness, and makes the same face as the one on his t-shirt which is hilarious.

Match #1: Daniel Bryan Vs. Kane

Bryan charges at Kane, and Kane backs him into the corner, clubbing him down to the mat with right hands. Kane with a running hook followed by stomps until the ref tries to separate them. Kane whips Bryan into the opposite corner and connects with a clothesline, and Bryan drops to the mat. Kane with a running stomp as a “YOU SOLD OUT!” chant starts up. Bryan gets sent to the apron and he sends Kane to the floor. Bryan connects with a kick followed by a flying splash…which is caught by Kane. Kane rams Bryan into the ring frame, then the barricade. Kane rolls Bryan halfway in and pulls at him, stretching him over the steel post. Kane rolls in and covers for a 2-count, then applies another chinlock.

Bryan gets to his feet and tries to break out then is sent to the corner. Bryan sends Kane into the middle turnbuckle with a drop toehold, then kicks the turnbuckle into Kane’s face. Bryan works Kane over in the corner with a series of strikes. Kane goozles him and sends him into the corner but Bryan powers out and connects with a series of kicks. Bryan with a series of rights in the corner mount until Kane shoves him off. Bryan grabs the legs and smashes the left knee against the steel post. Bryan grabs the leg and smashes it once more, then gets a running head start and dropkicks the knee back into the post. Bryan rolls in and starts with the YES! KICKS towards the knee. Bryan takes Kane to the mat with a dragon-screw legwhip. Bryan grabs the leg again and Kane tries to kick him off but Bryan hangs on and slams it against the mat. Bryan places the leg on the bottom rope and crushes the knee with a seated splash, followed by another.

Kane responds with a massive right that drops Bryan. Kane chokes Bryan against the middle rope with his knee, then kicks the chest. Kane with a scoop slam followed by a running elbowdrop for the 1…2…kickout. Kane slaps on a nervehold and the crowd wills Bryan to his feet. Bryan breaks out, ducks a clothesline, and dropkicks the leg out of Kane’s leg (LOVE YOU OWEN). Bryan with a series of kicks targeted at the knee, the crowd chanting along, then wrenches the leg around the middle rope. Bryan hits a running dropkick to the knee, followed by a corner dropkick to the mush. Bryan goes for another but Kane comes running out and hits a big boot for the 1…2…kickout. Now…commercial!

-Commercial Break-

Bryan escapes a slam attempt and dropkicks Kane, but runs right into a clothesline. Kane covers for the 1…kickout. Kane with a knee to the skull followed by a backbreaker, keeping him on the knee so he can push back on the chin and legs and exert more punishment. That’s some old-school stuff right there. Bryan tries to break out but Kane pushes his head back down. Bryan knees Kane in the face to finally create some separation and both men are down. Bryan kicks at Kane but jumps right into an uppercut off the second rope. Kane covers for 2, then reapplies a chinlock. This match is slooooooowwwwwww. Bryan breaks out and kicks Kane during an attempted backdrop attempt, then follows up with a springboard tornado DDT and both men are down.

Both men get up and it’s Bryan with YES! KICKS to the knee, but Kane catches him with a right hook. Bryan backflips out of the corner, ducks a clothesline, and goes for an O’Connor Roll. Kane blocks it so Bryan dropkicks him out to the floor instead. Bryan gets a head of steam and takes out Kane with a tope suicida between the ropes. Bryan rolls Kane in and heads to the top, connecting with a missile dropkick for the 1…2…kickout. Kane gets to his knees so Bryan peppers him with kicks to the chest. Kane ducks the kill shot and sends Bryan into the ropes, connecting with a sidewalk slam for the 1…2…kickout. Kane heads to the top turnbuckle and connects with a flying clothesline. Kane signals for the Chokeslam, but Bryan ducks it and kicks Kane in the head, knocking him down. Bryan heads to the top and delivers a flying headbutt for the 1…2…kickout.

Bryan with more kicks in the corner to Kane’s hurt knee, but he runs into a right hand. Kane sits on the top turnbuckle and picks Bryan up, choking him. He breaks the hold and Bryan catches him with an enziguri to the face. Bryan scales to the top but Kane blocks the hurricanrana and Bryan crashes to the mat. Kane follows it with a running DDT for the 1…2…kickout. Kane can’t believe it. Kane trash talks Bryan then hits a short-arm clothesline. Kane goozles Bryan, but Bryan escapes with a roll-up for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Daniel Bryan (16:44 shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: It had its few moments, especially towards the end, but overall this match was just too slow to get into. Bryan and Kane were great partners, but they don’t really mesh together well as opponents, at least in my experience.

Kane is shown angrily walking backstage, when Josh Matthews stops him for some words. Matthews asks Kane if he’s angry at himself for losing to Daniel Bryan, and Kane says he isn’t. Kane says Bryan got lucky, then says what he got angry about is the fact Bryan keeps challenging the COO of this company. Kane says Bryan is not fit for a match with him, let alone Triple H, then vows to get that little runt.

—–

Nikki Bella makes her way out for the next match, joined by her sister Brie Bella. Her opponent, Alicia Fox, is out second, joined by Aksana.

—–

Match #2: Nikki Bella [w/ Brie Bella] Vs. Alicia Fox [w/ Aksana]

Fox with a side headlock to start. Bella whips her into the ropes and gets dropped with a shoulderblock. Fox misses an elbowdrop and Bella takes Fox to the mat with a wristlock, wrenching the arm to increase the pain. Bella takes Fox down with a fireman’s carry and transitions into an armbar. Fox backs Bella into the ropes, but Bella ducks a clothesline and connects with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Bella goes into the corner mount then takes Fox out of there with a monkey flip. Aksana distracts Bella, allowing Fox to attack her from behind. Fox covers for 2, then tries again with the same results. Fox slaps on a headscissors as Brie cheers her sister on at ringside in the shrillest of voices. Bella bridges up, creating a pinfall attempt for 2. Fox kicks out then dodges a clothesline by hanging onto the ropes. Fox with a Northern Lights Suplex for the 1…2…kickout.

Fox chokes Bella against the middle rope, then takes her to the mat with a snapmare. Fox slaps on another reverse chinlock, grabbing the hair to bring her to the mat. Bella gets to her feet but gets struck in the back and Fox attempts a backslide. Bella flips through and hits a clothesline, followed by a dropkick. Bella with a back bodydrop, then jaws at Aksana who’s on the apron. Brie rips Aksana off the apron and Fox rolls up Bella for the 1…2…kickout. Bella picks Fox up and hits the Torture Rack Backbreaker for the 1…2…3!

Winner [via Pinfall]: Nikki Bella (4:39)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: A decent match that I feel like I’ve seen a hundred times already. This feud has been going on for about a decade or so on this show.

New WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos are out for the next match, Siva Tau entrance and everything. Jimmy says when you work at something and achieve that goal, it feels great. Jey Uso says everyone is excited for them, and the crowd cheers, everyone except The New Age Outlaws anyway. Jimmy speaks some Samoan. Young asks what’s next and they say they’re going to WrestleMania XXX.

Eventually The New Age Outlaws make their way out to end this terrible in-ring interview. Road Dogg and Billy Gunn aren’t dressed for competition, wearing jeans, and Dogg is limping. Dogg tells “Tanya” she’s doing a great job then has Gunn show her out of the ring. Dogg craps on Detroit for some heel heat, then asks Gunn if he can feel the awe from standing in the ring with the luckiest boys in the world. Dogg says they came out here to tell The Usos face to face that they’re going to have to postpone the rematch due to an injury from last night. Dogg says when they return 100% the titles will come back home.

GM Brad Maddox makes his way out to remind everyone he still works for the WWE. Maddox confirms Dogg’s injury and says the Outlaws will get their rematch when they’re better. Maddox says they have promised the WWE Universe a tag team title match, and introduces their new opponents: Los Matadores! The New Age Outlaws are now on commentary. This match is next!

  • Jon’s Thoughts: …Yeah let’s not give The Usos a live mic for awhile.

Match #3: The Usos (Jimmy & Jey Uso) [w/ El Torito] Vs. Los Matadores (Fernando y Diego) [w/ El Torito] for the WWE Tag Team Championship

The Usos and Los Matadores trade crowd callback chants. Jey with a side headlock on Matador 1 (Epico). Matador 1 whips Jey into the ropes but gets taken down with a shoulderblock. Matador 1, Fernando apparently, tries a couple of pin attempts to no avail then both men trade armdrags before both going for dropkicks. Fernando with a hammerlock, but Jey reverses into one of his own. Fernando gets taken down with a shoulderblock then hits a hip toss followed by an armdrag takedown. Jey grabs an armbar, but Fernando escapes and stops a right hand so he can do an “OLE!”. Jey jumps over a legsweep attempt then slingshots Diego (WHEN DID THEY TAG?!?) into the corner. Apparently that was Jimmy the whole time and now Jey tags in for a 2-count. THIS IS NOT GOING WELL FOR ME. Jey does the “OLE!” then backdrops Diego out to the floor. Jey catches Diego with a tope suicida. Fernando then hits Jey with a flying splash, then Jimmy catches both Matadores with a splash. All four men are down as we go to commercial.

-Commercial Break-

Jey tags back into the match after the Matador gets a roll-up on Jimmy for 2. The Usos hits a double legdrop and Jey covers the Matador for a 2-count. Maybe it’s Diego? I don’t know anymore, this sucks. Jey slaps on an overhead hammerlock. Diego kicks Jimmy off and tags in Diego. They hit a Total Elimination and Fernando covers for back to back 2-counts. Diego tags back in and covers for 2, then tags Fernando back in. Fernando with a slingshot senton for the 1…2…kickout. Diego tags back in and slaps on a reverse chinlock. Jey and Diego collide into one another with clotheslines. Jimmy and Fernando both tag in. Jimmy with a superkick followed by a right hand and Bubba Bomb. Jimmy gets the crowd clapping and misses the corner butt splash. Jimmy and Fernando trade Tombstone attempts, then Fernando hits Jimmy with a swinging DDT for the 1…2…kickout.

Fernando with a springboard splash, but ends up running into a Samoan drop by Jimmy for the 1…2…Diego breaks it up. Diego gets sent into the corner, doing a headstand, and Jey superkicks him off. The Usos drop Fernando with a double superkick and Jimmy finishes him off with a SUPERFLY SPLASH for the 1…2…3!

Winners and STILL Tag Team Champions [via Pinfall]: The Usos (8:30 or so shown)

  • Jon’s Thoughts: I’m an idiot and couldn’t figure out the way to tell Los Matadores apart until halfway through the match so I apologize for how terrible this recap is. My own idiocy aside this was a fun match and a fresh matchup, if you don’t count the many times The Usos faced Primo & Epico back in the day. Definitely more preferable than another goddamn NAO match, that’s for sure.

Post-Match: The Usos celebrate and Billy Gunn shoves El Torito as The New Age Outlaws leave the commentary table. Torito gets super angry and jumps on Gunn, ramming him with a series of rights before hitting a hurricanrana. Torito escapes attack attempts and lures Gunn into the ring. Los Matadores stand in front of El Torito, then all three hit him with a slam. Los Matadores celebrate to close the show.

  • Jon’s Thoughts: Was totally expecting an NAO ambush, instead Los Matadores get to drop Billy Gunn and end the show standing tall. Cool beans. Overall this show wasn’t much better than previous editions so don’t think WWE pulled out the stops here. They definitely didn’t but they probably didn’t really care to, despite it being live. It’s the C-show and will remain so.
